Well, there was that small additional detail - ..."caught on fire"...

LL

I can see it burning to the water line.

But still, it can't sink. If you run aground, your hull is on the bottom. You can't sink cuz you're already all the way down.

I suppose they could go over a shallow reef and tear the bottom out, and then when they pass the reef sink.

But that's not what they said. To me, if you've run aGround, you're stuck. In the mud or on the rocks, you're stuck.

That's still running around. Running aground is when a ship hits the seabed or some outcropping under the surface.

Could have struck the reef, been stuck on it,  then as compartments flooded it slid off and sank.

Close enough, the electoral college exists for good reasons. Not the least of which is to keep a voice for smaller (by population) states.

But posting more because the post reminded me of a couple news items I saw recently, journalists talking with undecided voters as to how the debates are helping them decide how to vote.

The damn idiots they were interviewing did not discuss policy or issues, they talked about how the candidates made them feel.

And this is part of why the electoral college exists, to choose electors with a clue rather than going with numerically overwhelming votes of idiots.

I do see some opportunity for discussion of apportioning electors versus winner-take-all, this is a state-by-state decision. Not something to mandate at the Federal level either way, but states could individually change this and the electoral map would change as a result. Campaigning would require paying attention to more than a last handful of states.

The primary reason in our country today is so that California and New York don't get to elect the President pretty much by themselves.

The left always wants to save their "Democracy".  What we have, at least the remnants of, is a Representative Republic.  The Electoral college is the barrier against mobocracy, protecting less populous States.

 Tim ?  🙃

Tim ~ Tim Allen, "Tim the Tool Man Taylor"

Undoubtedly he'd use a turbocharged Q-Tip.  ^_^

If it was Mike Baxter he wouldn't be painting his house ~ he'd go fishing.  :)

You don't if the water is shallow enough to maintain freeboard-- you're aground. If the water is deep enough to submerge the vessel, then yes -- you've sunk.

Where did you get the idea that having run aground was considered, 'sinking'? Another comic book 'graphic novel'?

Oh,       ......... thank you

never heard of him .......  🙃

TV show "Last Man Standing". Mike Baxter is a marketing guy for "Outdoor Man" which is pretty much like Bass Pro Shop. He's a very Right thinking man, with a wife and 3 daughters, some of whom aren't. Comedy ensues.

It ran for 6 years on ABC where in was the number 1 rated comedy, and number 3 rated show on the network. Naturally, since he was a popular Right Leaning guy, they cancelled the show. But Fox picked it up and ran it for another 3 years.

I highly recommend it.

For context, the full quote is "Not wishing to be left behind by Hank Azaria, I would like to apologise on behalf on Monty Python for all the many sketches we did making fun of white English people We're sorry for any distress we may have caused." This after Azaria apologized to "every single Indian person" for voicing Abu on The Simpsons. Very much tongue in cheek.
