The return of "Guns of the Old West" magazine

Recommended Posts

I got some great news today.

As you know Harris Publications went out of business, taking "Guns of the Old West" magazine and "American Frontiersman" magazine with them.

The good news is that Harris sold most of its titles, including "Guns of the Old West" to Athlon Media Group in Nashville.

I don't know publication dates, but I just signed contributor agreements with Athlon today, so it looks like we'll be getting things going soon.

That's great news. I wonder if our subscriptions will roll over or if we have to subscribe again. I know I paid for the two years and only got one new issue. I'll be subscribing either way I'm sure.

I'm not tied in to the business end, so I can't provide info on subscriptions, but, it looks promising. They need circulation to attract advertisers. Subcription money basivally covers printing cost, the profit is in the advertising. So having a subscriber base is pretty important.

Thank you much for that update Mike, that is indeed fantastic news and I will be a subscriber for sure...I hope you keep us posted with whatever you hear. Obviously, signing an agreement today pretty much says everything is still in its infancy, but it may get off the ground sooner than we all expect hopefully due to demand. They knew you were a writer for them, so if they are getting all of the other writers signed on, maybe they have already been in touch with the other advertisers to get them signed on as well.

Good...I will subscribe to keep things rolling...I may have lost money with Harris but it was a good magazine and I looked forward to it and read it cover to cover.

Well, I guess I'll have to subscribe, otherwise, I'll never see a magazine, being offered for sale around here, that mentions them demon guns.

Jabez, you're lucky you're living in God's Country. I'm still stuck here in La-La Land.

Hopefully they will have a digital subscription as that's the only type of subscription I pay for any more I have one paper subscription from a few years ago before I quit buying paper products and saw that I need to contact them to transfer my subscription to their new digital format. For books I prefer kindle, magazines I prefer Zinio but will accept PDF as a last resort as in the case of the cowboy chronical which I paid extra for the digital subscription back when they first bought the founders ranch. I get paperbacks as audiobooks through audible to listen to while inm on trips out of time and when I'm working out. My favorite authors are tom Clancy and Louis L'Amour.
