Ustas B. Slim 24680 Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Beyond the usual holiday workload, USPS is failing miserably. They have had a high value priority package for me sitting in a distribution center for over 5 days. They've told me that I have to wait till its 15 days late to do an investigation. @Grass Range - you may want to check your Post Master from your end. You'll need to file the insurance claim if they "lost" it. Quote

Single Action,SASS 30155 Gunfighter Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 I've had the same thing happen with small items sitting in the Distribution Center for 5 or 6 days. I do get them eventually. SA 1 Quote
Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 I just had a package of bullets from Missouri Bullets set at the accepting post office for 2 weeks before it started moving today and finally got an anticipted delivery date. My brother has had several packages delivered late the last couple weeks. When he talked to our local carrier yesterday she told him they have a stack of packages at the local office that keeps getting more piled on it and his latest two late packages are most likely there. She said she is delivering regular mail first in the morning and then going back and making a second run with just packages in the afternoon due to the large amount of packages being shipped this time of year. Sheriff Dill Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 I had a package of lead shot sitting in a USPS location for 10 days before it was finally shipped to the northeast and is supposed to arrive at my house today. Quote

Preacherman Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 I sent 2 - 3 day priority envelopes. One took a week and the second one is a week and counting. Horrible!! Quote

Eyesa Horg Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 What kills me is when 2 or more packages get to the distribution center within minutes of each other. One will get delivered the next day, one or more others may sit there for a week or more. Meanwhile others come right thru. Do they just put them on a shelf and gawk at them several days. Then one at a time they finally start delivering them. My Post Master just shakes her head when I ask. And as stated above, they can't seem to get them moving, ya just have to wait until they feel like putting them in a truck for last hour and a half ride! Quote
Dusty Devil Dale Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 I ordered some gun parts from Numrich in New York. They sent the order out In a soft packet with their name, Numrich Gun Parts, shown prominently in the return address. The USPS detained the package for 12 days in NY for various inspections. It was a mainspring and cocking rods for an old LC Smith sxs -- Not exactly an AR Upper receiver! Quote

Kansas City Post Office is a trainwreck, according to our local usps carrier. They are horribly understaffed, and those that do work there don't always show up. Big turnover in personnel. They have an overflow room where stuff tends to just sit until they get to it. We had a package from a gunsmith sit there for 5 days until our local postmaster called them and "encouraged" them to send the package. If your tracking shows it is in KCMO, you may have a longer than usual wait. Wish I had better news for you. Quote

PaleWolf Brunelle, #2495L Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 This morning I received a text message (supposedly from USPS) regarding a "Failure Notice of Delivery" with a live link to "click" to correct an address error. The area code for the sender was close (at first glance) to 541 (one of the OR codes)...upon realizing it was actually 514, I searched for the location. I called the number and connected with a recorded message in Québécois French (I had already surmised that the USPS doesn't send msgs from Montreal). Confirmed with a call to a local Post Office that, if I had "clicked" on one of the links directing me to the fake USPS website, I would have been asked for a credit card number for "verification" of the order. Apparently a fairly common scam during the holiday season 1 3 1 Quote
watab kid Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 (edited) ive gotten a few of those - mostly i had nothing coming so knew it was a scam , never answer these , dont let them get into your phone , a friend of mine let that happen and the next thing he knew his bank accounts were being attacked , thankfully the bank contacted him before distribution of the funds Edited December 18, 2024 by watab kid 2 Quote
PaleWolf Brunelle, #2495L Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 The only reason I paid any attention to the message in the first place is that I'm expection a "Priority Mail" package (reloading supplies) from Nashville that was ordered on the 9th. Tracking info indicated that it finally started moving from their local facility yesterday, with an ETA of the 20th to my PO box. 1 Quote
Three Foot Johnson Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 It's a crap shoot, but still a lot quicker than I can drive it there myself. I bought a bullet mold off eBay in August. It shipped via USPS Ground Advantage and took five days to go from Marietta GA to Atlanta, about twelve miles. Then another seven days to get to Palmetto GA, about another twenty miles... thirty five miles in twelve days. It made it to SLC in another two days, then finally to my house (Helena, MT) in another six days - twenty days total. This past Friday, I dropped a 1911 magazine off at the post office to be shipped USPS Ground Advantage to Ohio, and it arrived yesterday - three days, over a weekend, during the "holiday season". 1 Quote

Darn near fell for it the first time. It always happens with special orders I have pending. A number of times I have sent these emails and texts to the USPS Investigative Services (I think that’s the name). It seems they haven’t made any headway in nearly 4 years so I just quit reporting them. 1 1 Quote

Yul Lose Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 We have a small post office with space for 3 clerks. Never see 3 clerks on duty. I had to mail a package on Monday and there were 8 people in front of me and both clerks were doing passports and there were 4 passport customers next in line. I knew it would likely be hours before my turn came so I told the people behind me that I was going to drive down the hill to one of the Escondido post offices. I drove the 8 miles, parked right in front of the door and went in and was the 6th person in line, no passport customers. As I was standing there a guy behind me tapped me on the shoulder and it was the guy behind me at my local post office and behind him we’re 3 more people that had been in line at the local post office. There were counter space for 6 clerks and 5 were working. I’ll wager I was in line for maybe 10-12 minutes before my turn came. I asked the clerk why there were no passport customers there and she told me that that post office didn’t do passports they were handled by another post office about 3 miles away. I’ve complained to the USPS and local post master a number of times about the service at the local P.O. and the service only gets worse not better. They used to have a sign up that said Passports By Appointment Only but that sign has been removed. 2 Quote
