How far back do you want to go?Ā  Winchester's 1875 catalog listed a case of 1000 44wcf cartridges for $20.Ā :)Ā  But there was no air conditioning back then, so...

I just paid $85.48.8/1000 for a package of 5000 Magtech LR primers.Ā  LR primers have been hard to come by.Ā  GINEX & MUROM are within a few cents per 1000 delivered toĀ  your door.

When I started reloading in 2012 CCI was $35 locally.Ā  The best price I got before 2019 was $25/1000.

Winchester Wildcat .22 shells were 45 cents a box my freshman year in college. And I had to have my mom buy them for me because I wasn't 21 yet... :D

I just bought about 3000 LPP for $50.00 from a friend who can no longer shoot cowboy because of health reasons and is only shooting .22's. I also got a pound of HP38 for $20.00 from him. The LPP are Sellior and Belliot and CCI, can't be picky at that price!

I remember when I paid .70 to .80 cents for a box of 50 .22 LR and a carton of 10 boxes was about $7.00.Ā

Yup! 75 cents for a box of Winchester or Remington target .22 LR. But that was 70 years ago, when I, a 12-year-old could go into a local gun shop and just pay cash! Then had Mom drive me to the local middle school, with my bolt-action, single-shot rifle, where the local police officer ushered me to the gym, where he and other LEO's put us through the NRA gun safety course!

I must be around the same age as Trailrider, I'll be 83 next month. Same with me, except my Dad owned a gun shop. He made me pay for my ammunition. I had a Winchester single shot .22 that I always wished wasĀ  magazine fed so I could shoot faster...LOL. I lived in then rural LA County (Downey) and we had horses, chickens, rabbits, pheasants and several hunting dogs. When I got home from school (was about 12 or 13), I used to catch my horse and bridle her. Get my .22 and a gunny sack and pick up my buddy who lived a couple of places away. We would ride bareback on my horse on Imperial Hwy. to the LA River and shoot rabbits. Fill the gunny sack about 1/2 full and go home. We cleaned them and had them for dinner. Those were the days for sure.

"Olden Days" is of course totally subjective, and relative to what?Ā  One thing I've noticed is that since the great pandemic drought of reloading supplies, while everything is higher, primers have dropped 20% or so from when they first started showing up again, but powder prices keep rising fast with a few exceptions (like Hodgdon).Ā  On Saturday I bought an 8 lb keg of WST at a LGS for $322.Ā  About 2 years ago at that same store it was $239.

I have 2 that are unopened. 1 of Red Dot and the other is Unique.

Ā

I'd have to look but I may have a third that is empty.Ā

Ā

BTW I'm open to offers.Ā ;)

Also recall around 1963, when M2 Ball .30-06 TW54 (very accurate for ball ammo) was going for 7 cents a round! Eight-round enbloc clips for M-1 Garand Rifle were dirt cheap, though I don't recall how much they were going for.Ā
