I must be around the same age as Trailrider, I'll be 83 next month. Same with me, except my Dad owned a gun shop. He made me pay for my ammunition. I had a Winchester single shot .22 that I always wished wasĀ magazine fed so I could shoot faster...LOL. I lived in then rural LA County (Downey) and we had horses, chickens, rabbits, pheasants and several hunting dogs. When I got home from school (was about 12 or 13), I used to catch my horse and bridle her. Get my .22 and a gunny sack and pick up my buddy who lived a couple of places away. We would ride bareback on my horse on Imperial Hwy. to the LA River and shoot rabbits. Fill the gunny sack about 1/2 full and go home. We cleaned them and had them for dinner.
