I just posted this. Is nowhere safe?

We were evacuated from Cajon just before noon today because of a fast moving brush fire that started along 66 just across the road from the range. Seemed strange to me where it started. I hope the range is still standing. On the way home another large fire had just started in the hills to the west of Murrieta and Temecula.

Thanks, I’m home now but that fire above Murrieta looks like a big one. They had quite a few fire crews on the scene and many more on the way at Cajon. I haven’t heard how the range has fared. One of the things that it has going for it is that the brush isn’t close to the facades and buildings but they are wood for the most part. No telling how they’ll come out in a wind driven fire.

The first picture is of the fire along 66, you can see the entrance to the shooting range to the right of the highway. The other picture will give you an idea of where the fire is in relationship to the range.

Yeah, that was something, wasn't it? Beartrap got a crew together this morning to get the steel put away. It looked like the fire was done in that area, but another one shut the 15 down just up the hill.

Huge thanks to @Beartrap SASS#57175 for getting us out of there safe.

He should be charged with attempted murder and, if anyone died, first-degree murder.

I noticed on a fire map of CA that some hot spots were at regular intervals along major roads. It looked suspicious.

The losses are heartbreaking. Even the losses of "things," which have memories attached, sadden me.

he should be charged with murder if a s8ingle firefighter - resident - or anyone else dies because of this , i do not comprehend the mentality of such a person , but we do not need them walking among us - and do not tell me you can reform him

Yep, Beartrap is the man. Very orderly evacuation.

I heard the South Fire just missed West End, too. I didn't get a chance to talk to anyone from there.

One of my daughters lives in Lake Elsinore and she was a bit nervous about that Murrieta fire you passed on the way home. She's good so far, but that one is looking to be a mess.

We have another fire less than two miles away, it's The Lawrence Fire.  I called the fire dept., they said no evac yet. Ten minutes later, someone posted that sheriffs were manually evacuating the area.

They also said it was a grass fire and they were throwing resources at it. Flight radar showed three planes and a helicopter. It is now 40% contained. Whew, that was close.

PS @$^% fire bugs.

For the first time in months we have a bright blue sky.  I checked the smoke map and the smoke flow has dipped south of us.  We have wind 10mph, gusting to 22 from the north west.  Humidity 30%!

I just looked at the smoke and fire map.  Smoke coverage is as heavy here as anywhere in the country.   Fires are spread across the whole country now.   Looks awfully suspicious.

The last few days in the People's Republik of Sacramento... the AQI has been down around 10.
We are thankful for the breather, and the opportunity to run the house fan to blow out the stale air.

Temps have dropped well below the 103 mark, so this fat old man is back out on the bricks for 2 miles per day.

I have now become the crazy old guy who walks the neighborhood and mumbles to himself.
Apparently... it is now my turn.

My sister just posted pictures on Facebook of the beautiful red sunset she took yesterday.  Everyone rejoiced at beauty but no one connected as to why.

Here is a smoke map showing all the fires, including those detected by satellite (the smaller spots). You can see the fires are numerous and wide spread.  Just a coincidence there are only a few fires north of the border?

In Ohio I have some kin, and also a friend from back in 8th grade who splits her year between CA and OH, and they post gorgeous sunset shots.  I'll sometimes say that while they are gorgeous, red sunsets don't hold much beauty for me anymore because of the fires.
