The US sure doesn't cover itself in glory in that sport!!1

During every Olympics, whether summer or winter, I watch them as much as I can to cheer on team USA.  I watch sports I would never otherwise care about.  But last winter Olympics I fell in love with biathlon.  If I were younger, I'd take that up (locally, anyway; I don't have any false delusions of grandeur).

Biathlon:  The sport where you match your athletic cross-country skiing skills with others while shooting nazis.  No kidding, it was invented as a military skill, and the Norwegian army shoots and skis at the same time.  Count me in.

And we thought our Cowboy Guns were pricey!...

I "was" going to mention how much those Biathlon Rifles cost.  $3950 is actually a pretty reasonable price.  Such a Deal!!

I once saw an op-ed that basically bashed biathlon as a ridiculous sport and not worthy of the Winter Olympics. Apparently sliding polished stones across the ice is a legitimate and athletic sport but skiing and shooting is not. Of course we all know it was not the skiing part, but the shooting part that this idiot disagreed with.

I met a girl and her Dad in Oregon at a shooting range.  She was trying out to compete in the Biathlon. She had the wildest cool looking rifle. The stock was all Red, White and Blue laminate.  She offered to let me shoot  it but I declined. Her rifle cost over $8,000.  Once she told me that I was definitely not touching that rifle. ;)

I cannot think of any other athletic event, Olympic or not, that requires the athlete to master fine motor control during exhaustion.  Help me out--anything?

These days I have enough trouble hitting a target without being out of breath.

I admire the Biathlon competitors tremendously.

I watch the Biathlon whenever the network condescends to show it, but I liked it a lot better when everyone competed with the host country's military rifle.

Sorri to say this to TWO of my favorite Wire Pards, but you both have it all wrong.

The rock only cost about $25.   Its the handle that adds on another $450......... :lol:

Kinda like a customized Ruger 10/22:  the 10/22 cost a couple hundred bucks but all the other

customized parts make it about $800+..... :D.
