Who makes a 'Good' (best) case trimmer?

Recommended Posts

I have 2 of the RCBS case trimmers.   One of them is the 'Pro' model.

But I have problems with both of them.    Once I set my 'stop collars',  the first few cases turn out o.k........... but then, it starts trimming

the cases shorter.

Seems my 'stopping collars' start slipping under pressure as I'm pushing the 'shaft' to trim the brass.

Anyhow...... what would be a REAL GOOD case trimmer for me to buy that is consistent in its cutting (trimming) process.

Thanks!

..........Widder

That is exactly why I use the Lee trimmers.

I have a Forster that I've never used. I'd sell it for $50.00 + shipping if someone wants it.  Everything that you see in the pictures would be included, except the mounting board. I got this in a group of reloading stuff that I traded for. Widder would have 1st dibs.

Glad you’re getting a good trimmer @Widder, SASS #59054

I was in the market for a decent trimmer a couple of years ago. I was using Lee trimmers. I was walking through Menards and found a Black & Decker 12 volt drill driver on sale for $12. I use that with the Lee trimmers and I am happy with it. I was doing it by hand before. Got real tedious real fast.

I had the RCBS unit but I found ita bit of a pain for me to use as I had to be in the loading/gun room/ammo lock up with it mounted to the work bench.

In the winter, I usually trim and de-burr the previous summer's brass sitting in the Lazy Boy, watching TV and using the simple LEE case trimmers.

I just have a box in my lap to catch any brass trimmings.

Be sure to order up the pilot's and collets while you're waiting for the trimmer.

Something I forgot to mention with that drill setup. See the piece of leather on top of the drill? That’s for tightening the collet under light power so I don’t get bit with the sharp corners on the shell holder.

If they make it in your caliber these are really nice.  Trims and chamfers all in one operation

Lee makes two versions one is hand turned and the other can be used with a power driver.

Hey Widder

Probably too late.  Mine is a LYMANN.  I added the Carbide Cutter as the optional shaft for power operation.  Chuck up a Cordless Drill Motor and go.  I've made about 6,000 copies of the Cowboy 45 Special with no problem with the "depth" settings.  Also has an accessory shell holder available for use with a Lathe should you desire.

Just for funzies, how hard are you shoving on that RCBS case trimmer?? :D

Q: does the stop collar use a simple set screw, or does it clamp like the collars for dies?

Set screws are notorious for slipping, and also for scoring the mating surface and creating divots in it.

I have used all of them in the past,  for a HAND trimmer the Wilsons are the best.  For a power I have had Little crows, a Giraud, but now I have the BEST, a Henderson.  Wonderful product.  Trims to length (within .001) and tapers outside and inside of the case all at the same time.
