Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770
Taurus has another couple new revolvers coming out. The "Rosco" from Heritage, which Taurus owns is a 30s style .38 with either a 2" or 3" barrel, unshrouded ejector and skinny grips, their SAA clone I mentioned here before, and a 7 shot .357 and 9mm. I remember that somebody was asking about 9mm revolvers back about last week or so, so you might like this one. The trick with the .38/ 9mm is that with the push of a button, the cylinder pops out and is replaced with the other caliber. I wonder if they will offer separate cylinders so that one could swap them out like Clint did as The Preacher. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbBoJMcbbPA
Pat Riot
I saw that Heritage “Roscoe” and I thought it might be cool to have just to play with, but it’s a 5 shooter. That .38/9mm sounds interesting. Here’s the link for the Roscoe. https://heritagemfg.com/revolvers/heritage-roscoe/445-roscoe-3in-wood
sassnetguy50
A satin 3" .38 for under $300? What an exciting departure from the sea of flat plastic pistols. No stock yet. Maybe it will help the next generation get into revolvers when they're on a limited budget. It is certainly named for the modern mullet wearers. https://battlehawkarmory.com/product/heritage-roscoe-.38spl-3-fixed-black-wood

Since Taurus is making their 856 to replace the 85, I wonder if they're using that tooling to make the "Rosco". I have several of the 85s and really like them, but I don't like skinny grips like the "Rosco" has.
Dantankerous
The new 692 Executive .357 looks like fun. Pricey though. Hopefully street price shaves a couple hundred off msrp. It has a detachable 7 shot cylinder with a 9mm swappable-in cylinder. 3inch ported barrel, wood grips, unfluted cylinder.

I have big hands but that little adapter makes a big difference on a small grip. My S&W model 10-7 C&E My S&W model 442-1 and 36-

They have enough "meat" in front of the frame to fill the hand nicely.
Rye Miles #13621
Prices are reasonable and I’ve heard Taurus has gotten better. I don’t own one. I had. Taurus .38 revolver years ago and sold it to get my first Smith & Wesson.

Not fancy or purdy, but shoots just fine. These Executives are finished much nicer by the pictures I have seen.
Michigan Slim
My wife carries an 85. Nothing special but it shoots well. I have a spring kit for it somewhere.
bgavin
Apparently there must be a market here, or they would not continue introducing all these new varieties. My Rugers will FAR outlive me and will hopefully be passed on. As of this writing, there is no firearm that I need. Even with the 11% CA punitive tax a month away, I have zero need to buy something new. And yet, the manufacturers are constantly flooding us with new models. Not a rant, just an idle observation. Pat Riot
One revolver that Taurus makes that I would like to have is the Taurus 608. It’s an 8-shot .357 magnum. I would like the 4” model. https://www.taurususa.com/revolvers/medium-frame-revolvers/taurus-

My friend had 2 Taurus P92's, both from the late 90's .... no issues of any kind. These also served as his Service weapons.

I only own one .357, an 8 shot Redhawk and love it. It's a beast. But those new Pythons just keep calling my name. AND THEN, Colt releases even MORE DA revolvers. The Kodiak, Grizzly and the Viper. It never ends.

bgavin
I looked into the Kodiak, but it was not legal in CA. I got the PM7 instead, which I really to like. That PM7 and my Alaska in 44 mag are favorite shooters.

Rooster Ron Wayne
I have a bunch of .38 Special revolvers from S&W and everyone in between. I just ordered the Rosco in 3" . It's a fine looking .38 special & +P rated , and under 300.00 . How can you go wrong . Pics to come when it comes in . Rooster

I am interested in the 3” model as well. I think if they’re reliable it would make a great fishing, hiking, woods revolver. Usually when I go fishing I will take my model 63 .22lr along. I’m not a big fan of Copperheads. A .38 loaded with a couple of snake shot shells and 3 rounds of wadcutters should handle anything I would encounter. If they take the same speed loaders as S&W J frames that would be nice.

Pat Riot
Does anyone know what decade or era it was when people called revolvers a “Roscoe”? I did a search but found nothing conclusive. I ask because I have heard young guys call revolvers “Roscoe’s”. Maybe they like that old slang.

The slang is commonly credited to one of these authors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damon_Runyon https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dashiell_Hammett Ex: “I jammed the roscoe in his button and said, ‘Close your yap, bo, or I squirt metal.’” So Roscoe probably started in the 1930s and gained traction as the books became movies and shows. Pat Riot
Thanks @Trigger Mike @sassnetguy50 Thank you. That would explain why I couldn’t narrow down a decade. @Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770 Thanks. That is good to know. ——————————————————- I have to say that I was disappointed that the Roscoe is a 5 shooter. When I have heard the term in old movies it always seemed the guns being referred to as “Roscoes” appeared to be longer barreled revolvers 4 or 5 inches and they fired 6 rounds. If you look at very old DA revolvers, many of them had nothing in front of the ejector rod. I'm guessing (once again) that since the Taurus 85 had the front lock on the barrel, that the "nub" is left over from that, but is solid instead of having a mechanism in it as both a cost cutting measure but also as something to protect the ejector rod.
