Secret Service Releases Study on Mass Shootings, Mainstream Media Ignores a Huge Commonality

The Secret Service recently published a 60-page report detailing its data about mass public attacks. The study was conducted by the U.S. Secret Service’s National Threat Assessment Center and examines 173 incidents that occurred between 2016 and 2020.

Each attack included in the report resulted in at least “three or more individuals injured or killed across public or semi-public spaces, including businesses, schools, and houses of worship.”

Most articles you read about this study will have one commonality: they will point the finger at guns, placing responsibility on “guns” in general. But that statement is far from accurate, and the Secret Service would agree.

The term “mental health” is used 57 times in the 60-page report, yet the reports being generated by the mainstream media won’t mention that aspect at all.

This poses some serious concerns when you consider what the media’s role is in shaping the general public’s perception about the topic.

Like most articles written these days, there is a lot of finger-pointing with no real solutions presented. Their quick answer is to take away the Second Amendment, which we all know would create more issues than it would “fix” anything.

One group that is doing more for the cause of addressing the real issue is the nonprofit Hold My Guns. Their mission is to connect responsible firearm owners with voluntary, private off-site firearms storage options through their national network of gun shops and FFLs, during times of mental health crisis or personal need.

“Guns are common household items, and gun ownership is a normal part of American life,” said Sarah Joy Albrecht, Founder and Executive Director of Hold My Guns.

“According to the 2021 National Firearms Survey, 32% of the U.S. adult population ages 18 and over own firearms – this translates to about 81.4 million Americans. Prioritizing accessibility to voluntary firearms storage empowers gun owners to responsibly manage their personal matters without stigma or fear of losing their Constitutionally-protected rights,” she continued.

To further understand mass shootings, it is important to acknowledge all sides of the topic. S.H. Blannelberry wrote an interesting article that helped to contextualize mass public shootings. Of everything mentioned in this article, one stat really stood out.

It is extremely hard to view this pie chart and not see an overwhelming trend. Criminalizing firearms or responsible firearm owners will not fix the problem.

What is our best approach? What is the answer? One thing is certain, gun-control fanatics doing what they have been doing — making gun-free zones and trying to strip us of our 2A rights — isn’t working.

They ignore the fact that over one million times a year law abiding citizens defend themselves with firearms! A lot of the time just brandishing it will chase the criminals away. Therefore it’s not reported.

They're are other studies that downplay this like from NPR and the likes.

Thank you @Sedalia Dave

In early 2019 I worked for a public agency in Los Angeles. I had only been back there a short time. I had worked there 15 years previously.
We had a “Safety in the Workplace” training session that covered a number of things in regards to safety in unusual circumstances. Natural disasters, earthquakes, fires, airborne threats, bombs - threats or use, shootings, hostage situations, planes crashes, etc. Our shop & yard facility was under the flight path of an LAX runway.

This wasn’t about general or personal safety but location oriented safety.
When it came to guns and shootings and/or hostage situations there was much discussion, some a bit heated. The “heated” parts came from employees complaining that our agency banned guns at the workplace. Employees wanted to be allowed to have guns for personal protection. (Yes, in CA - as has been said many times before, not everyone in CA is anti-gun)

The biggest thing or the most concern by employees during this training wasn’t  earthquakes, fires or planes landing on our heads. It was nutjobs coming to work to shoot everyone.
I was quite surprised at the response to these concerns by the manager of this group from Workplace Safety. He said (Sic) “We now have a program that mandates that employees that other employees have concerns about go to a trained company contracted mental health specialist to be evaluated. If they pose a threat, they will be removed from the workplace and not allowed to return until they are deemed okay to return or terminated.”

I thought “Finally, someone is addressing the real problem.”

Right after that training several employees approached me about an employee they considered to be a nut job - I will not drag ion about this dirtbag because it would take all day. I will say that had we been in the Old West back shooting would have been justified.
Anyway, he went for psych evaluation and was deemed okay to return to work. It was determined he was faking to build a case for a lawsuit.
I fired him anyway and life got better for everyone.

My point is that some agencies and businesses are recognizing that more mental health resources aren’t a bad thing when dealing with questionable or outright destructive people…or faker scumbags.

Unfortunately folks that aren't into firearms actually believe only what the media tells them constantly.

over the years many places have stopped selling guns and / or ammo.  Dicks, some Big 5 stores,

Walmart has cut way back, and the list goes on.  Isn't it strange that NOT ONE of these places (or any one else for that matter) can positively identify a single crime that has been prevented by this, yet there are literally millions of instances where good people have prevented crimes, reduced the number of victims, and stopped bad guys with guns right in their tracks.

Is the public of this country...and others...really so damned stupid as to believe the crap they are being fed and the lies they are being told?

It makes me wonder how much longer we will remain a free nation.

That’s what I always heard.

The "media" no longer consists of journalists who simply report the news. Instead, they write or report slanted ideas. Huntley and Brinkley and Edward R. Morrow are causing seismic events.

How many of the mass shootings are caused by individuals who left multiple clues on the internet that they were not dealing with a full deck, and intended to commit massacres? Yet, even in cases where cops were aware of it, nothing was done before the event! I was under the impression that lying on a Form 4473 was a Federal crime, yet at least one individual hasn't been prosecuted....yet...maybe?

I am reading an interesting book, "Unwoke" by Senator Ted Cruz, about the media and what is being taught to many kids these days.

Free?  Can’t build without permits.  Government will take your property for public good or back taxes.  Take your money and property without conviction for suspicion of a crime.  Permission required for exercising Constitutional rights.  Rigged elections.  Threaten  for speaking unpolitically correct.  Interstate travel restrictions. A few that came to mind.

Just a question, posed for your consideration!!

How many more households have a gun than a fire extinguisher??

The scariest thing to me is that only 32% of our citizens own guns!!

Can that be true??

Both might be true. How many of us are the only gun owner IN our household?

If all the guns in the house are mine, then and my wife and daughter don't own any, only 33% of citizens in my house own guns.

Splitting hairs maybe, but it explains the discrepancy.

I suspect that the 32% number is used by the gun grabbers, using that number as if the head of household is the ONLY owner, to further mislead the public as to the number of gun owners in the nation.

This number falsely skews the perception in the public eye!!

It’s just another tactic to mislead the public in an attempt to marginalize those of us who demand our rights, portraying us as a small group of fringe lunatics who must be controlled!!

By preventing the general public from learning and accepting the truth, they have an easier path to making their vision of the world the reality!!

Between this report and the report of results of the recent NBC poll that indicates that a probable majority of households have a firearm on the premises, open publication of these findings would severely damage the credibility of the gun control faction and that of the current administration and their acolytes!!

Pretty much every household in my town owns guns. I only know if one house without, but are getting training to purchase in the spring! They have to do 2 months stunts at the university in Chicago and are hoping to get permitted there. They don't need one here.

I forgot to mention that this headline looks really good at the top of the front page, so let’s take it back up there for another little while!!
