shoulda been packn .41s

What...they had a tire pump...

When I lived in SoCal cougars would chase mountain bikers there too. It was quite nice in the woods after a report of a cougar chasing mountain bikes. Had the woods to myself for a while...then the normal memory loss would occur and the self entitled idiots would be out there tearing up trails and b****ing when people were in the way.

I would always root for the cougars but it’s too bad the guy died.

Like you said Willie, shoulda had a gun.

What do you have against .44's or .45's? ;)  Some years ago we had a jogger killed in IIRC Boulder Canyon.  Wildlife officials say, if nothing else, try to make yourself appear bigger and make a lot of noise.  Packing iron isn't always possible, especially in anti-gun locales.  But unless absolutely prohibited, hikers, bikers and other pilgrims should consider packing at least a .38 Spl with +P loads.!

I've had several cougars chase after me, some I ran from, others I didn't. Then there are those I wish had caught and wrestled down myself.

Even today,  some will give me a quick, predatory glance, but most are after fresher, more tender meat than I have to offer.

I admit, I had to read this twice before it registered in the ole brain.

Now all I can say is....... :lol: :lol:

Even at the least, would a .22 be o.k?

Something like a 3"  SP101 in .327 Mag would also be an easy to carry, potent defense pistol.

All the cougars I met would probably say a 22, even a 32 would be just fine.

Well Grampaw, if it's any comfort, my favorite backpacking iron is/was a .41 Mag Blackhawk. That's what I bought it for, seemed to be the biggest punch for the weight. Also the only handgun I ever killed a deer with. Ground hunting, killed a nice fat barren doe at 26 yards. Dropped like a bag of concrete.

At what age difference from you do they become a Cougar?

When YOU are the same age the cougars used to be.

Looks like some education is warranted.  The 41 Mag can do anything a 44 Mag can do with better bullets until the 44 Mag goes into the 300+ grain bullet.  The .411 LBT 260 gr. WFN is a really nasty customer when buddied up with a lot of W296.

When you go Mountain Biking you need to be packing a Mountain Gun!

I had two like that, once upon a time but foolishly sold each one of them. One in 44 magnum one in 45 Colt.

A very nice handgun.

Rick Bachman , Old West Reproductions ; maybe ??

Rex :D

His stuff is top notch and very period authentic. Maybe not what most fellers want for CAS but very comfortable to wear ( I LOVE the money belt) and perfect for re-enacting or just a great leather companion for your SAA.

This info got me to reading up on the 41 mag. Pretty new to me although I've known about its existence for decades.

Now I might hafta git one.

Thanks for the primer, Noz. :D
