Abilene Slim SASS 81783
Saw "The Revenant" yesterday. Also watched "Mad Max: Fury Road" last week. Can't believe they're in the same category for best picture. Mad Max is mildly entertaining, but basically a bunch of special effects action sequences and a tissue thin plot in an effort to tie them together. More video game than movie. Never understood the Oscar "criteria".

Yul Lose
I'm boycotting the Oscars... Like I do every year. Those folks think waaaaaaay to much of themselves.
Abilene Slim SASS 81783
I'm boycotting the Oscars... Haven't watched the Oscars since the 1970's when a streaker ran across the stage behind David Niven who was at the podium. Without missing a beat, Niven said, "Obviously he doesn't mind showing his shortcomings."
Utah Bob #35998
They need to hold the Oscars 2 years after the movies are released. I might have seen few of them by then.

Noz
I always thought it was odd that there are so many award shows each year when actors tell each other how great they are, Frequently the movies that the actors think are great are box office disasters. Probably won't watch!
Dawg Hair, SASS #29557
I know I sound like an old foggy more and more as time goes by, but to me, Hollywood's golden era in talent and imagination faded away decades ago. With very, very few exceptions everything that comes out of it is pure junk. If it were not for computer animation Hollywood's producers and directors would be totally lost. I think there is still a lot of real talent in actors, directors and producers but the spectators that actually go to the theaters are the video game generation who just want the blow 'em up, shoot 'em up scenes with no substance. If movies like Shane. High Noon, Gone With The Wind, etc., the originals, not remakes, were to be released today they would be financial disasters. Sad. Krazy Kajun
Ah yes, Gone With The Wind. Who could forget that epic film starring Hoof Harted and Wendy Behind. Ah those great movies from yesteryear! Kajun
Rye Miles #13621
I saw Mad Max, Fury Road and while I'm a fan of Charlize Theron I thought the movie was terrible. Nothing but a bunch of special effects and not a very good plot. I can't believe it's up for an Oscar!!! I haven't seen Revenant yet but it's got to be better than Mad Max! J-BAR #18287
I saw The Revenant last week. The cinematography is so good that words escape me. And I think DiCaprio earned an Oscar just surviving the filming. The only thing I did not like about it...they were not faithful to the true story of Hugh Glass. Mr. Glass's story is remarkable enough without being tweaked by Hollywood. It did not need to be "punched up."
Dantankerous
Yup. What J-Bar said. Perfectly summed up The Revenant.
Nasty Newt # 7365
Maybe they don't want to wind up like SASS with 30 or 40 "Best Picture" Oscars. But I agree, it is hard to compare those two movies.

I don't know the original story, so I wasn't disappointed. Sometimes it's better that way. Took me 3 nights to get thru Mad Max on HBO Now. Doesn't matter where you jump into this movie, it's all the same. Like I said, it's a video game.
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
Special effects are cheaper than a cast of thousands. And it is all about the money. Art, my patootie.

Tell Sackett SASS 18436
Abilene Slim- what David Niven actually said was: "it's sad to think the only way that man can get a laugh is by showing his shortcomings." Or pretty close. It's been a while, so I might not remember every word.
