I have a NIB Colt and a used one that I have shot. I got really good prices on both of them and I thought about hanging on to 'em for an investment. I know I can make a few bucks on these but every time I fondle that NIB Colt I get the urge to get it slicked up and shoot it.

I would have a pair of Colts as my main match guns. I'm really leaning towards doing that and I know ya'll will give me good advice. Whadya think????

One is a 4 3/4" BCC in 44wcf and the other is 5 1/2" BCC in 44wcf. They're beautiful!! There's nothing like a COLT!

Have a pair of nickel 44wcf that I had jim alaimo put ivory on and slick up, those sit in a display case, have a pair of 357s comin, they will go to alaimo and get slicked up and ivoried as well, those will be my match guns, have ubertis, fun guns good pieces, but colts are colts, what else can be said, id slick them both up and shoot them.

If things continue to go in the direction they're going, the value of Colts will only go up. I wouldn't bet my retirement on them, but you'll get your money back. That said, if they're not abused they will command a good resale price, so why not shoot the new one? You know you want to. I use all of mine.

The way things are going I don't think that shooting and taking good care of them at the same time will hurt much. Where this gets to be a determining factor is special orders or rare configurations then collectors tend to start discounting price.

Colt just got a loan to allow them to stay out bankruptcy. If they close, the price of Colts will increase the same way that Winchesters have since 2006. When is the last time that you saw a $200 used Model 94.

Nothing like a Colt. My Commander is a Colt and I have a Colt SA, in 45 Colt and 2 Cimmarrons. I love my Colt but honestly I can not tell the difference in quality between the Colt and the Cimarrons.

The quality comes in the hardness of the parts as was told to me by a gunsmith. I have a pair of Taylor's (ubertis) Smoke Wagons and I love 'em but there's just something about the feel of a Colt!

The 5 1/2 I have has already been slicked up and I've shot it in several matches. I used it mainly as a back-up gun. Now that I have the NIB 4 3/4 I've decided thanks in part to some of your comments, that I'm getting my gunsmith to slick this up and got for it! Yea Colts as my main match guns..I'll use my Smoke Wagons as back-ups….I love it!!

Yeah Rye Miles, good move. I take my nickel plated Cimarron to the mountains when we pack in on horseback. we usually get caught in a rain storm and even though we have slickers its damp enough to get a little rust on a blue gun, and I save my Colt for shooting for fun. I agree nothing feels like a Colt

You can't deny that Colts are a sound investment.

It all comes down to priorities.

Ok Rye....need your opinion....bought a pair of NIB 5.5 inch...Colt 45s, eight months ago with the plan of sending them to Longhunter for a little vacation and spa work. Buddy convinced me to keep them pristine as an investment. Ain't getting any younger and after your post I think the Colts need a trip to Amarillo....What say you, fellas? Should a middle of the posse shooter (on a good day) be flashing Colts. Is it time for new leather also? Give me some sage advice.....Jim

That was exactly my question. I planned on keeping these guns for investment, (better than interest at a bank, and the stock market, well..) but after comments here and talking to other pards, you can shoot the heck outta these Colts and still at least get your money back. I shot Colts for 10 years, .45's and sold them when I went to .44-40 and didn't lose a dime, maybe even made a few bucks. There's nothing like the feel of a real Colt….SMOKELESS OR BLACK!!!!

I have shot Colt 45s now for well over 10 years and love them. I recently got a new Colt and it is now

"slicked up" and ready to be a backup. Traded my back up Rugers for a Winchester 92 in 38-40.

I talked to my Colt guy and he's gonna do 'em up in a couple weeks! I used to shoot Colts when I shot .45's, I sold 'em to buy .44-40's. I bought a pair of nickeled Colts in 44 wcf and had so many problems, sent one back to Colt twice! I guess they were just lemons! I sold them! These Colts I have now are perfect!! I can hardly wait to shoot these!

There's nothing like a COLT! :)

Thanks for all the advice guys and gals! ;)

Checking out the boxes and have both hard standard black grips and beautiful lacquer walnut grips. Which ones cowboys? Dang I wish I knew how to post pics...they are beauties....Jim

It looks as if most are coming to their senses. It's really no fun to have nice toys if they are kept in a box in the back of the closet. Gotta get em out onna carpet and run em around. :)
