It Must be the Heat

Recommended Posts

I know it's been hot in a large part of the country and people must not be used to the heat like we are here in the desert southwest. How else do we explain the explosion of posts currently on the wire where people that have shot SASS for well over ten years suddenly can't figure out what boots they can wear. Suddenly can't figure out if their shirts are legal. And, suddenly can't figure out how to get from the loading table to the firing line and back to the unloading table. Pards, come in out of the sun, splash a little water in your faces and have a refreshing cool beverage. It'll all come back to you.

bottled water is OK, but it must be carried in a period correct canteen or waterskin.

Canvas water sack or some animals stomach skin.

OK, clay pot could be substituted.

Cork stopper or wooden plug. No flip top.

None aluminum rivots. Brass rivots are ok.

That should about do it.... :)

No wait, I reckon a wooden keg would also do if constructed by hand using period correct materials. :D

Yep~!!! an oak barrel comes to mind. Hand forged barrel bands and forged nails to put the finishing touch on such a fine water container.

Does the interior need to be fire treated like the Jack Daniel barrels?

Larsen,

Let me start by saying I've been doing this a while. I was dressing Classic Cowboy and shooting Frontier Cartridge Duelist way before the category was created. Since age has caught up with me, I have feet problems and I am trying to find some sort of boot/shoe that will work for shooting. This has not been as easy as some have stated on the wire. I'm currently going to try mocassins, because the only thing I have found to be comfortable is Crocs.

On the Roper Kiltie, I have seen this boot worn several times except in Classic and BW. Since the post on the Ariat Terrain was outlawed I decided to ask about the Roper Kiltie. It was a little different and I feel it could have been legal. If this was so, the person asking about the Ariat Terrain would have had another option along with others who have feet problems. I tried this boot and wore it to a few matches, with nothing said. This boot didn't work for me. Feet problems are a growing problem in this sport. You have seen this discussion before on the wire and it always goes the same way. Usually wear what feels good to you.

Now, we have people having to ask the MD for medical dispensation and they may or may not get it. Why can't we do something to help these people instead of getting our panties in a wad and chastizing the ones who asks about something that may help someone?

I knew the shirt was legal. The point is why do we outlaw nylon? I know orginally it was to insure leather was used and not nylon. Why not just say all gun holsters, belts, footwear must be made of leather. You know the rules can be interpreted differently by people. Just read some posts. I also understand the common sense approach but common sense is derived from experience you are not born with it.

I'm not going to talk about the loading table to unloading table thing. I guess I've been able to accomplish that for awhile. I have been told we have too many safety rules before, maybe they are right. Sometimes I wonder.

Have a good day,

Could be some folks want to chat about something, and have a philosophical discussion, or maybe speculate and pontificate.

Maybe they are confused about all the rules changes and expansions over the decade. Maybe they have been misled by some very

well meaning shooters who speak with great authority, even if not veracity. Maybe they just want to have a pleasant conversation

about something that interests them and that they haven't thought much about. Maybe they're bored and want to find three other

people to chat about something inane . . . :D

What surprises me the most is the intolerance of folks who first have to select the topic and open it, then read it,

then decide to be offended about it or complain about it, and then have to post something antagonistic to the OP.

The one's that I don't care about are the ones I use the back arrow and exit from, then the thumb wheel to scroll further on

down the page . . . this is a game and nothing on the wire is worth getting angry over. . . .

Ya got me, but then I'm still a new guy anyways. So I sorta figured I'd just wing it for 10 or 12 years, then check back to see if I was legal...LOL!

You mean that there are folks with guns out there that can't tell the difference between a Justin roper and a tennis shoe?

Can I use bottled water or does it have to come from a well?

No. Only from a muddy hoof print and by God you better be thankful!

MM,

THAT is one of the things that has NOT changed. How could it? It is part of human nature.

And if Gen'l Grant can be chided for changin' out of his shooting attire before the awards ceremony, who the heck is anyone else to feel a rule doesn't apply to them!

If the Judge can show up at a shoot from his sickbed in appropriate garb, I know where we should look for our example!

I agree with Blue Wolf! I got guff when I was asking questions about the same as my diabetic complications worsened. What I was trying to do at the time was to split the difference. Not buy a neon athletic shoe and state "Medically necessary". No instead I tried size 15 boots just so I could get my calf's into them. I've tried lower cut leather cowboy boots (like the Wellington's etc.). I even paid the expense to get a boot that I knew would fit my foot and had the shoe man put zippers into them but with a covering piece of leather so no one would see the zippers. None of those ideas really worked out so I selected my insurance provided "diabetic shoe" (which I should have been wearing all along) in a model that looked pretty much like a town shoe. I'd still get questioned by the Shoe Police every now and then, but by that time I'd given up trying to split the difference due to the response I got on the wire and at the range. At that time I once again thought about those "Neon athletic shoes". Smithy.

It seems that, once again, something someone posted in light-hearted jest has been taken personal by folks.

It has been hot in places it isn't supposed to get hot... Here in Michigan it has been so hot and dry that our State Bird (the mosquito) almost died off !

When it is 85, and you think, wow, this is a nice day out... something isn't right in the Big Mitten.

past that, y'all argue all you want about shoes.... my take on it is that if someone has issues with their feet, let em shoot in what makes them able to shoot. If someone wants to try and game the system by wearing athletic shoes, big deal. I have yet to see someone shoot with their feet.

I am all for rule and regulations to keep the field level but, safety, common sense, common courtesy and treating people as we wish to be treated need to first and foremost in our hearts and minds.

my .02 (change left over from paying the smithy to make my cast iron canteen.
