Shooting Catagory revision

With all the discussions lately, I think it is time we have a wholesale revision of our sport.

We should make it like bracket racing.

All stages should be standardized and each shooter will be "handicapped" based upon their performance at prior shoots.

We each get an index to shoot for. The shooter that shoots a 40 second index time should have the goal to shoot the stage as close to 40 seconds without going under that time. If they go under then their stage has broken out and they "lose that stage"

Then we can rank score based upon stage placement which is determined by the difference between index times and shooting times.

In this manner anyone could win by being the most consistent.

Of course I recognize the sport wouldn't be any fun if we played in this manner, but at least anyone could win.

Before I respond I need you to please clarify something for me, are you serious or being sarcastic?

Hey Philly, I'm sure it's a joke :D;) But it could be fun as a side match. Pre shoot the stage twice for an average. Then the third time is for the GOLD!! :)

Let's just make it Professional! $$$$ as awards like Mounted!!

There's already some Pro's in the sport, let anybody try and make a living at it!!

Sounds like a pretty good idea, actually, seems kind of silly to just score on time; I mean, any-old-body can shoot fast and this sport, with our plethora of catagories has grown past total time. Rank points; well, they are rank and though I must give kudos to the inventor for coming up with a way to "level" the playing field. At least he tried.

Now this here bracketing idea does sound like the hot ticket. I don't know about you'all but I'm a getting a mite tired of the same old shooters winning the same old matches in the same old catigories, year after year sfter year after year after.....I mean how many first place trophies do ya need anyway. Only fair to come up with a scoring system that would even out the playing field even better than rank points and give other shooters a chance to stand in the winners circle.

Flint has no sense of humor

He thinks Tex sounds funny when he laughs

As Tex is always dead serious

Then Flint must be serious

Time to get out the Slide Rules.

Now that is funny!

I was just tired of reading about all the changes people want to make to keep it a level playing field

Actually have done something like this.

And I based it on, exactly as Flint said, bracket drag racing.

After the stage was read AND prior to you shooting it - you had to give the scorekeeper your estimated "time"

(just like we used to do at the Friday night drags in white shoe polish on the windows of our Camaros, Novas and Mustangs).

Then everybody shoots the stage.

Shooter closest to their estimated time, without going under, wins.

Winning shooters got boxes of shotgun shells.

Of course, this had no bearing on the match but was done to give everybody a chance to win something.

I think folks enjoyed it and it was interesting to see how close people actually would run to the time that they had guessed.

I thought that system had been in effect, I think someone said it was the 3P System.

Practice, Practice, Practice.

Wouldn't it be easier to do averages and different classifications (AA, A, B, C...) like they do in ATA? At least that would limit the math. Pretty much just addition and division then. And yes, I am kidding. I'm still too wet behind the ears in this sport to worry about it all.
