Gizzly country minimum carry would be the .460 Rowland.

Would prefer a hot loaded .44 mag or .45 Colt with proper BULLET selection for penetration.

And of course, ya gotta consider the .454 Casull,  .460 and .500 S&W.

BUT..... my #1 choice would be a good 12 gauge pump or Beretta A300 or 1301.

We spent 9 weeks at Yellowstone back in the 80s.
Then there was a bear going from campground to campground, breaking into campers, killing and eating people.

The ranger stopped by and said it was moving our way.
We tore down camp and was on the road home in 90 minutes.
From then on, I carry an 870 with full extended magazine, loaded with #000 and Slugs.

I’ve found that I can load my .45 Colt ammunition used in my Ruger Blackhawk to levels that can’t be matched by .44 Remington Magnum.

While my choice for a confrontation with a grizzly bear would be absence, a .454 Casull would be preferable to either of the aforementioned.

I have a beautiful ruger 454 casull,  single action stainless, one of the Davidson specials. Beautiful finish, 7.5 in barrel, unfluted cylinder.. love that gun. With full power 454,lol, not the best gun to take to the range and I edc a 10mm... About 4-5 shots will last ya. But for bear, handgun wise, no question.

Doesn't sound like the two kids did anything wrong.  A semi-auto pistol in 10 mm seems to be the preferred gun for brown bears in Alaska these days according to a number of sources.  What I suspect happened is that the two kids were carrying 10 mm and .45 ACP hollow points for two legged predators, not bear.  For the 10 mm at least, it should have been a cast solid pushed as fast as safely possible.

That's what I mean, even the Australian alien bunnies are dangerous! The bears wouldn't stand a chance against the hordes of rabbits...not even with the Holy Hand Grenade.:o:rolleyes:
