Tom is was nice to meet you and others at the NY match. Maybe I’ll see you again down the road sometime. Loved your national anthem on the harmonica at the opening ceremony.

If and when you make it to PA you'll get to see him and, hear his harmonica playing, again.  I can always count on Tom and that crew to be at our match.  They are the BEST!

I have enjoyed Cowtown Scout’s 50 State shooting challenge! He’s up to 27 with NY! Here are a couple of pictures I got - one at Registration and one on the range!  He’s a GREAT Ambassador as Classic Cowboy of the Year!

Hugs! Scarlett

Thanks Scarlett it’s always great to see you! Believe somewhere amongst all your photos you also have one of me Saturday sitting on my gun cart between stages. I’m on the last leg of this trip and should be home this evening. Spent all yesterday at the Shiloh National Military Park touring the Battlefield. See you at Land Run.

Well I made it home at 5:45 PM Texas time today Thursday September 19th.  Unpacked the inside of the car but the guns and stuff in the trunk will have wait until tomorrow.  Will also be washing lots of cloths, cleaning guns and brass tomorrow.  At some point will need to load ammo for Land Run, but that will have to wait until probably the week before. :P

This was a LONG TRIP - 23 Days - Drove 5,086.5 miles through 14 States (Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Indianna, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachuetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Arkansas and Tennessee).  The full write up and photos will have to wait until October.

Next week I am attending the fall meeting of the American Society of Arms Collectors and will be making one of the seven presentations to the group.  Will also have a large display that will include 34 rifles, accroutements, and period photos.  My presentation and display will be on the Evolution of the U.S. Military Black Powder Metallic Cartridge Breechloading Long Arms (1861 - 1893 both Army and Navy).  I got most of it ready before I left on this trip but there are still a few items that need to be tweaked and wrapped up for the meeting.  Luckily the meeting is in Denton so it's not that far to travel, but I have a lot of stuff.  :D

I'm thankful you made it home safe and sound, Scout.

Just curious . . . what kind of "faithful steed" do you travel in?

OK it's time to update this thread and it's still October as hoped.  Let's start with something I forgot to include last time.  Between shooting Wisconsin State and Missouri State I shot the Texas Black Powder Championship at Old Fort Parker.  Finished 1st Frontier Cartridge Classic Cowboy and this is a photo of 3 of the Classics who shot the match.

As stated in my last post I had the Fall meeting in Denton of the American Society of Arms Collectors.  I was one of 7 presentations and it went very well and I received a lot of compliments afterwards which made me feel pretty good since this was my first time to make and present a power point presentation.  I also had a display related to my presentation that included 34 rifles.  They have 3 categories for displays, individual item, themed items and joint (multiple people) and all members vote on the displays.  Three places awarded for individual, three for themed and one for joint.  There was probably 30+ displays at this meeting.  My display was awarded one of the themed awards.

Right after this meeting I had to load and get ready for Land Run in Oklahoma.  Just before this last trip it was anounced that I had been chosen for the Classic Cowboy Shootist of the Year for 2024 and Witchy Woman for the Classic Cowgirl Shootist of the Year for 2024.  The awards presentation and dinner was Thursday night during Land Run.  Here are some photos of our awards presentation.

Here are most of the Classics who attended the presentation and dinner.

Land Run was great as usual by the Oklahoma Territorial Marshals.

I finished 5th in the Silver Senior Classic Cowboy Category.  Combining all the CC Categories there were 42 Classic Cowboys and 10 Classic Cowgirls at Land Run.

NOW back to my ongoing cowboy travels.  After this last LONG trip I have now shot Cowboy Action in 27 different states and here is the updated map.

image.thumb.jpeg.48c90f7387434a300df386edf4db8006.jpeg

Michigan was first in the travels and it took me two days to get there.

image.thumb.jpeg.8d5bc8d994c84c2d88fb249f271637b7.jpeg

The warmup "Mini" match had 3 categoies, Gunfighter, Duelist and Traditional.  I placed 1st in the duelist category.

image.thumb.jpeg.b687415f7c39e0fbe5567fe056155e04.jpeg

They had some great cowboy figures around the range that I want to share.

I had inquired from the match director of some places to visit after the match and before heading to the Maine shoot.  The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village is in  Dearborn just and hour south of where we were at.  So Monday I spent the whole day at the Greenfield Village (right next to the Henry Ford Museum).

image.thumb.jpeg.6522dbe7a8b2e67e1ed0c5e497a1642e.jpeg

I started with the train ride and then after walking around all day and taking lots of photos it was time to take a ride in one of the Model T cars.  As you can see I should have worn my cowboy hat because I got way too much sun on my face.  But I had a GREAT time!

image.thumb.jpeg.5122ce2e8a87d2974727d990f0ca42f0.jpeg

Then Tuesday I spent all day at the Henry Ford Museum.

Oh I collect mugs for places I have visited.

image.thumb.jpeg.1d4749010b2815dc37af255f6191f9b1.jpeg

Then on to Maine and it took me two days to get there.  Ate a lot of seafood while there.

image.thumb.jpeg.48be8abcf5dc47106e18b4ef05d9d988.jpeg

Each shooter got one of these jars of homemade Blueberry jam.  Did not open it until after getting home from Land Run, but it is Great!

This is the posse I got to shoot with.

image.thumb.jpeg.1753d83bcc8276da661f5e234aa9c52d.jpeg

I finished first Classic Cowboy and here are 3 of the 4 Classics who shot the match.

The Monday after the match I spent the day in Portsmouth New Hampshire just 15 minutes south of where I was staying in Maine.  Stated with the Historical Society walking tour and then their museum and John Paul Jones House.

image.thumb.jpeg.488f05ea1885169c8f61e4a199ae611f.jpeg

Then I went to Strawberry Banke and toured all the buildings on site.

image.thumb.jpeg.351f37ee04fb1e6efb2e4b76f648da06.jpeg

Then visited the USS Albacore Submarine before calling it a day and going back to the motel in Maine.

image.thumb.jpeg.11aff014086a393aa5fa186e8394f7f3.jpeg

Next I headed to Concord Massachusetts where I stayed 2-1/2 days.

image.thumb.jpeg.d0f025a97640103343140258128dcc8c.jpeg

Starting with the North Bridge on the travel day and then a whole day at the Minute Man National Historic Park.

image.thumb.jpeg.99dfd63929b4c4f08fa4f6c048ab2d39.jpeg

Then on my travel day I started with a Walking tour of Concord before heading to the New York match.

Scarlett already posted some photos of me there in this thread.

Here are the Classic Cowboy awards along with all the other awards just prior to the ceremony at the range.image.thumb.jpeg.600f833b2354991223606e4812b9d0d7.jpeg

I finished second Classic Cowboy and here is a photo of 4 of the 6 who shot Classic Cowboy.  Scarlet also took this photo for me.

The next day I headed to Jackson Tennessee which took me 2 days.  Then spent the whole next day at the Shiloh National Military Park about 1-1/2 hours south of Jackson.  Started in the visitor center with a great video on the battle and other displays there, then did the driving tour using the US Park Service APP that I downloaded to my iPhone the day before.  Much better to listen to a narration about each stop instead of just following the hard copy map driving tour.

Then on to home the next day and posted what I quoted at the start of this update post.

I had the pleasure of shooting with him at Land Run - when he was OFFICIALLY named the Classic Cowboy of the Year at their dinner! He got a beautiful buckle! IMG_4339.thumb.jpeg.c30c9342dc64f32538e5b2eeb00d60dc.jpegIMG_4311.thumb.jpeg.bf82ff9be621b83e54efaa3df05ee0db.jpeg

At first I was stunned at over a Half A Million Miles!  Then I realized you live in Texas where it's at least 100 miles to the corner store!

Back in the early 80's, I was down near Dallas-Fort Worth doing an installation for Halliburton.  Closest hotel to the install site was over an hour a way.  Dang Texas is a BIG STATE!  It's about 21.65 times the size of Maryland, and as far as land area, it's 26.79 times as big.

Just posted this over on the "How Many States Have You Shot Cowboy In" thread, so I thought I should post it here also.  This is my plan for 2025 and 2026 and will see how many I accomplish.

Cowtown Scout made it this last weekend down to the Texas Riviera Pistoleros' Gunfight at Gamble Gulch near George West, Texas, the southern-most annual west of the Mississippi (I think).  I believe he said it was a 7 hour drive.  And he won Classic Cowboy. :).   Don't ask how I did - I had fun.

Thanks Abilene, it was good to see you again and it's been a while since I shot down South Texas way.  My trip down to Beeville was 6 hours with a stop for lunch and Beeville is about 30 minutes East of the range.  Thanks for the sticker "Look Good Shoot Good" about your youtube channel.

I watched the whole playlist titled "Old Shooting Videos, Mostly BP" which were from 2001 and 2008.  (20) Abilene Cowboy Shooter - YouTube  I started shooting CAS in 2003 and remember targets that small, far apart and farther away, but do not miss having to shoot them these days.  For anyone who did not shoot in those times check out that playlist and see what I mean.

So my trip to Texas Riviera Pistoleros started last month when I read a post by Will Kane about the match in a thread started by someone asking about upcoming Christmas Shoots.  When I checked it out they had already reached their max limit so I reached out to Will via PMs and he talked with club officials which allowed me to enter.  When checking on places to stay there was George West (west of the range) and Beeville (east of the range) and I choose Beeville.  The motel was 30 minutes from the range which was an easy drive each day.  Drove down Thursday so that I could shoot the 3 stage Plainsman match on Friday morning, they also had long range after Plainsman and wild bunch in the afternoon but I did not shoot either of them.  The main match was 5 stages Saturday with some side matches after lunch and 5 stages Sunday followed by lunch, raffle drawings and awards at the range.  It took me 5-1/2 hours to drive home after the match which was about 30 minutes longer than it should have taken but that was caused by rain and high traffic on I-35 after dark.

As Abilene stated above I managed to win Classic Cowboy and this belt buckle was only the second one I have won that had Classic Cowboy on the buckle.  The other is from 2009 and it has been on my gunbelt since then but I am now replacing it with the 2024 buckle.

Will Kane sent me a video that Dream Chaser (who was on my posse) took of me shooting stage 3 "Cemetery" on Sunday.  Here is the senario in the book, photos of the stage and then the video.  I shot it in 28.29 seconds Clean.  :D  Thanks Dream Chaser and Will Kane.

I was admiring someone else's buckle and really liked the design, but did not notice that the category was listed, very cool!

Well I have started my 2025 cowboy travels and this last Sunday I shot with the Bend of Trail folks at their first match of the year. They shoot at the Roanoke Rifle & Revolver Club located in Hardy Virginia. I was welcomed by all and had a great time. I took care of a clean match on the first stage with a miss and a P and then followed that up with 3 more misses so only had 2 clean stages out of the 6 we shot. But in the end I finished 4th out of 14 shooters so I guess it wasn’t too bad. :P They have 3 bays available to them and the set up two bays with steel and then shoot 3 different scenarios on each bay for a total of 6 stages. There bays are off to the side on a regular range used for other shooting so they put up and take down all steel for each monthly match. After the match I went to lunch with some of the shooters and six of use ate at a local Italian restaurant they normally go to.  Here is a group photo of all the shooters except the photographer.

Virginia is the 28th state for me to shoot Cowboy Action!

I stopped here on my way to the spring meeting of the American Society of Arms Collectors being held in Massachusetts. I’m there now and later this week we will visit Lexington and Concord where the first shots of the American Revolution happened 250 years ago on April 19, 1775.  Will come back here and post some photos when I’m back home next week sometime.

OK I'm back home after driving 3,842.7 miles through 10 states: Texas, Arkansas, Tennesee, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts.  Took 3 days each way there and back.

Here is a momento that I got from the match in Virgina.

This is a photo of my display at the ASAC show in Woburn MA.

We took 2 seperate bus loads (I was on the second bus) to visit Lexington Green, The Minute Man National Historic Park and the Concord Museum (where we had lunch before touring the museum).

This is Lexington Green were early in the morning of April 19, 1775 British troops fired on the Provential Militia which were waiting on the Green when they arrived.  According the park ranger acting as our guide the Militia was dispursing as ordered by a British officer on horseback when his troops fired without orders.

This is Buckman Tavern directly acoss from the Green and was present that day in 1775.

We made three stops at the MM Park, the first was at Parkers revenge site that I had visited last year during my stay in Concord between the Maine and New York state matches.  Captain Parker was the leader of the Lexington Militia that was fired upon on the Green.  They followed the British troops as they made their way to Concord and found a place to wait for them to return, thus the name Parkers revenge site.  I took no additional photos here.  During my trip last year there were two places I could not visit due to construction still in progress getting ready for this years 250th celebration.  One of those was in the middle of the park at Hartwell Tavern and that was our second stop, so this year I got to see it.

image.thumb.jpeg.62378ff728f1db822a8f8203f7edbafe.jpeg

The third stop was at the North Bridge were again last year due to construction I was not able to access.  There were only two bridges to cross the river to get from Concord to the farm where a large part of the supplies were located that the British troops were seeking to destroy.  Most of the troops stayed in Concord seeking out supplies stored there, another group when over the North Bridge and headed to the farm and another group stayed at the bridge to keep it secure for the passage back from of the ones that went to the farm.  Large groups of Militia started gathering on the hillside over looking the bridge where they waited until smoke was seen coming Concord where some supplies were being burned.  The Militia thinking the town was being burned by British troops were ordered to load their muskets and advance on the bridge.  The troops on the bridge were out numbered 3 to 1 and started moving back across the bridge but a few still on the bridge fired on the Militia as they approached.  At this point the Militia were ordered to fire and did so THUS "The Shot Heard Round the World" as the Provential Militia fired for the first time on British Troops.

After the British troops left the bridge and met up with reinforcements from Concord and the Militia saw the town was not buring they returned to the other side of the bridge and backed off letting the troops that had gone to the farm pass and joint the other troops in Concord.  However once the troops stated their march back to Boston and MANY other Militia started to arrive a running battle occured all the way back to Lexington where a relief column of troops met the retreating troops.  Even with the relief column they were still heavily out number by the Militia and the running battle continued all the way back to Boston.  The American Revolution had Begun.

Here are some photos from within the Concord Museum which we toured after eating lunch.

Hope that was not too much American History from 1775 but I had to share some of it 250 years later.

Later in the week we also took a bus over the the American Heritage Musuem.  Rather that post a bunch of photos here is a link to a video about the museum.  https://www.pbs.org/video/the-american-heritage-museum-gi196k/

My next stop will be South Carolina State Championhsip next week and doing some more history tours after the match.

Thanks, your pix brought back some memories of when I and Ellie went there on a motorcycle trip years ago. You're having way too much fun traveling, keep it up. 🤠

Scout,

I find it interesting that you are based in the DFW area.  I lived in that area many years and still own a place in Venus, Texas.  I go back yearly when I have time from the rest of my travels.  I have been to all the states except Hawaii.   I have just purchased another car and plan to start traveling again.  I have driven to every state and shot, except my trip to Alaska.  As of today, I have 7 more states to shoot in.  I am headed West soon.

I have utah, california, new mexico, oregon, colorado, hawaii and arizona,  left  to shoot in.

Hopefully we will run into each other soon.  I want to hear about all the different clubs in texas

Hi Patsy Montana

Venus TX is about 35-40 minutes SE of my house.  It's cool that you have shot is so many states so far and only have 7 more left.  Maybe we will get to meet somewhere down the road.  Of the states you have left I plan to shoot a monthly match in UT in the spring of 2026 and Hawaii will not take place until 2027 or after.  I like you window map that is neat.  As far as Texas Clubs there is a listing of all I have shot in earlier in this thread (some no longer exist).  I shot the New York State last year, were you there?

Thanks for the suggestion.  However, the week after Michigan I am shooting Maine State and the following week I am shooting New York State.  So two weekends from Michigan I will be shooting in New York.  Maybe next year I can shoot in Ohio and Pennsylvania in one trip from Texas.

I wish you could come to the Massachusetts/Connecticut/Rhode Island Tri-State match.  It's being held in Maine this year.   That would, I suppose, count for 4 states at once!

It's in early June this year.

On a similar light, the "Northeast Regional" is held out in the MidWest in Ohio in early August.  I may try to get to that one this year.
