Cleaning my Uberti 1873 rifle and......

Thought I'd remove the dust cover and when I did that little spring loaded ball bearing popped out and hit the floor....gone forever.  Numrich list the part at $10 and is out of stock.  Now this little steel ball measures 0.137, so I go to my favorite place for hard to find items, McMaster Carr.  Found a bag of 100 for $7.50 item #9528K228, which is about a years supply for me.

In case anyone is interested.

Disassemble with the gun inside a cardboard box.   Parts which try to escape are normally caught and dropped to the bottom of the box.

The more valuable or necessary the gun, the more important to "box it"

good luck, GJ

When I clean my ‘73

I remove that tiny screw that holds that front thingy on..

I remove the front thingy and then just slide the

dust cover back until that little ball pops into the screw hole..

I stop there and start cleaning with the dust cover holding

the ball and spring in place..

Ever try to reassemble the ladder sight for a Henry? Tiny springs and TWO ball bearings forced by a spring in opposite directions.

A challenge for an octopus to put together... yes, the "spheres" shot off into the great beyond SEVERAL times. AHHHHHHH!!!

First thing I do is remove the dust cover and the lever lock from a rifle.  Just two things that aren't needed for the rifle to function but can mess up a stage if something goes haywire with either one.  I put the pieces in a small ziplock bag and mark it with the rifle's serial number so if I ever want to sell it I can put them back on.
