Got those (or related) ants in east Tennessee. had to replace a relay in an AC unit with a sealed unit, they were attracted to the electricity and got crushed and fried in the contacts. Did not have problems with them eating the insulation, but they would not leave the contacts alone.

 

The taste for insulation may be related to insulation based on vegetable oil, rats love that insulation too. Lots of cars used it for several years.

Personally,  I suspect that there is only 1 fire ant colony in the Southeast.

 

It's just so big that the mounds we see are merely exits they dig wherever the urge takes them.

Pretty much all mammals have toenails, but it never occurred to me the kangaroos had stuff look like that. You hear about boxing kangaroos? They don't have to punch you. All they got to do is slap you. You'd bleed out in a couple of minutes.

The ones on their feet are even bigger and more lethal. One kick to the abdomen and your guts may end up all over your shoes.

I wouldn't eat one that has myxomatosis......something they introduced to thin them out.....most are immune to it now though.

They will eat your crops, so maybe not an out-and-out desire to kill you, but you can starve to death if you don't start eating rabbits.
