Nice garden spider.  Believe they are spread pretty broadly in the U.S.  Big and attractive, for a spider.

The gold iridescence did not come out in the picture, it is not the typical English Garden spider I know and love.

 

Have one of those making a web over the porch screen door right now. Hope I don't walk through it by accident and get a free Kung Fu lesson.

 

On edit; The one in the pic might be a Golden Orb Weaver. Just got this update.

The club opened in 1959, so after that. But how do you figure Valentines Day 1966?

That date as Wallaby deduced was the introduction of decimal currency in Australia.

No way I would have known that! 

 

Which brings up another thing I don't know... Does Australia celebrate Valentines Day? I think it was a "holiday" invented by Hallmark Greeting Card Co, so don't know it it goes beyond US borders.
