I have seen, since the coming of the internet and YouTube, forty-eleven different videos explaining that that is the reason for the hole in the lift tab on a can of soda pop.

Why would anybody drink a can of Coke with a straw? You either drink it straight out of the can or you pour it into a glass. I have never seen anyone drink out of a can with a straw.

And they have the same type of lift tab on cans of beer. Is that so you can drink your beer through a straw?

People come up with the stupidest reasons for why things are.

I've been served Ginger Ale with the straw thru the tab in the hospital.

I remember when that picture first showed up on the internet.

They said it was Indonesia, not Australia.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet :)

The top ring pull was the one that everyone (at least here we did) used to bend and break into two pieces and use the paddle part inserted into one of the two slots to launch it as a missile at someone :)

The ring part is what you used to repair flip flops or thongs

One of my former bosses used to drink his Coca Cola using a straw through that hole. He also had a microfiber cloth to wipe down the top before he popped the tab and kept a box of straws in his desk.
Just saying

Unless it actually looks dirty, I just pop the top and indulge! Been doing it that way since I started opening my own with a church key.

American Indian tries to scalp a patron
It was circus time in Yarrawonga. Wirth’s Circus was in town and with it two North American Red Indians Eagle Elk and American Bear. Eagle Elk had already been in trouble with the law earlier in the week for attempting to steal chickens in Benalla.
In Yarrawonga it was American Bear turn.
He tried to scalp a patron with an axe at Huggins Hotel.
In the altercation that followed the young Yarrawonga men went on a warpath and almost killed American Bear.
According to reports American Bear presented a sorry sight the following morning in court.
The magistrate said he thought that American Bear had taken sufficient chastisement, and discharged him.
If the adventures Eagle Elk and American Bear in North East Victoria were typical of their time with Wirth’s Circus in Australia, one hesitates to imagine the extent of their battle injuries by the end of tour.
