No longer? You mean they said it was?

When I was in school there were seven - Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, North America, South America, Antarctica. Seven. Greenland was not a continent.

When I was a kid in grade school there was much discussion, debate, and disagreement as to whether or not Greenland was a continent.  That it is not considered a continent is a matter of political agreement for the most part since there is no consensus on what, in fact, are the parameters that define continent.

I recall some geography teachers saying that Greenland really was, or should be considered, a continent.

By some accounts, it’s not a continent because it isn’t big enough. By others, it’s because it is too near other larger land masses.  These are incongruous when you take into account that Europe and Asia are separated only by national borders and international agreements. It’s one land mass!

The Americas are considered two separate continents even though they ARE connected by the isthmus of Panama. It IS, in fact one land mass.

For that matter, if not for the man made Suez Canal, it would be possible to walk from the west coast or the southern tip of Africa to the Pacific Ocean shore in Russia or China without the use of a boat or a bridge!! The Mediterranean, the Red Sea, and other bodies of water are really just large bays, sounds, or inlets!!

But according to Google, Greenland was never officially recognized as a continent.

I didn't say Pop-Tarts. I said pop tops. That's that thing in your bottom row of fuses, in the middle, 130 amps. Used to be on soda cans and beer cans.

,,,,, that's a ring-pull.  ......... we did once have "pop-tops" with 2 'buttons' on the top, you pressed the little one to release the pressure and then pressed the larger one to allow you to drink, ..... good idea, but never really caught on  🙃

There's still ring pulls on heaps of different cans. Most stay with the lid (to cut down on litter).

And to keep dumda$$es from swallowing them!  Used to be that some idiots pulled the rings off and put ‘em into the can before drinking instead of disposing of them properly.  Then they’d turn up the can and start chuggin’! Once in a while, one of these idiots would get the ring and tab stuck in their gullet or suck it down their windpipe!!

Ya’ don’t see ‘em on drink cans anymore.

Yes, that was a common thing down here as well - pull it off and stick it into the can and then drink the contents!

Have a question about y'all's phraseology.

Here in the states, I drink a cup of coffee. Or I drink some coffee. In England, I understand, they have a coffee.

Saw a movie one time (MY FATHER MY HERO? Maybe). Divorced parents. Father was French. He calls in sick to work because he has a young lady coming over and he's going to go boom badda boom badda boom. His daughter hears that he's sick so she makes him some chicken soup and takes it over his apartment and lets herself in and hears the noises of carnal pleasure coming from his bedroom. This annoys her.

Later he asks her why she's so mad at him. And she angrily tells him. And all he took away from her diatribe was, "Oh. You made me a soup."

Not some soup. A soup.

So that's my question. Do y'all drink a coffee or a cup of coffee? Do y'all eat a soup or a bowl of soup?

It's strange the way that works. I can drink a Coke. Or a beer. But not a whiskey. Not a wine. Not a coffee. Not a water. Not a milk.

Back in elementary school I would drink a milk, because they came in a little eight ounce carton in the lunchroom. And because bottled water has gotten so popular a lot of people drink a water. But not me. I drink some, or I drink a glass of, or maybe a cup of. But not a.
