Abilene Slim SASS 81783 Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 I’m not a fan of mostTom Cruise movies, so with some trepidation we tuned into “The Last Samurai” on Netflix. An entertaining film IMO with the plot much like a Hollywood western. Woulda been better with cowboy costumes tho.
Major Crimes Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 I quite enjoyed the movie. I to am not the biggest Tom fan but liked this one.
Subdeacon Joe Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 Not a bad movie. Although him surviving being hit 20 or 30 times with 45-70 rounds is pretty farfetched.
Sixgun Sheridan Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 Maybe we need a Last Samurai category in CAS where you have to shoot a target coming at you on horseback with a Samurai sword. or... maybe not.

If I remeber correctly there is a scene in the film where he is wearing a U.S. uniform and has a sheathed sword. The tip of the sheaths is dragging on the floor.

So were his pant legs; Tom is vertically challenged. I was more impressed with the archery than I was with the guns. Even if some of it was staged. LL
Sixgun Sheridan Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 For a Tom Cruise movie it was fairly mature. Probably the best actor though wasn't him or Ken Watanabe, but Hiroyuki Sanada (who plays the Samurai who detests him). Basically he's a modern-day Toshiro Mifune.
Anvil Al #59168 Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 I can not stand him as a person. But the boy makes pretty good movies.

Tennessee williams Posted March 13, 2020 Posted March 13, 2020 That reminded me of an old Charles Bronson flick. There's nothing like a western with a samurai in it. It's called Red Sun. Check it out.

Spoiler......they would have gotten along better if there had been a Dairy Queen.
