Ringer Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 The buttstock on my double barrel has started squeaking in the wrist area. It is tight and no visible cracks. Any ideas?
Marshal Hangtree Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 I'm resisting the obvious squeaky butt jokes . . . .
Krazy Kajun Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Spray a little Ballistol on your wrist! Kajun
J-BAR #18287 Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 Shoot it until the crack is visible, then repair the crack.

The Original Lumpy Gritz Posted April 12, 2019 Posted April 12, 2019 You're sure, it's not the forearm? OLG

Ringer Posted April 12, 2019 Author Posted April 12, 2019 Yep. Took forearm and barrel off. Seems to be in wrist area. Also took recoil pad off and tried to tighten screw. Was tight. Loosened it some and squeak went away.
Shooting Bull Posted April 13, 2019 Posted April 13, 2019 On a serious note, it sounds as though the stock has worked itself loose. If tightening the mount bolt/nut doesn’t work you might check into having it bedded.
watab kid Posted April 13, 2019 Posted April 13, 2019 could fit a thin bit of material between the wood and metal to alleviate the noise , but im hard pressed to think it is that bad to need it ,
Joke 'um Posted April 13, 2019 Posted April 13, 2019 Having no visable butt crack should be between you and your doctor. This is not the proper forum for such discussions. This high class answer was made without reference to squeaking.

The screw may be 'bottoming-out', and has lost clamping ability. OLG
Ringer Posted April 13, 2019 Author Posted April 13, 2019 Resolved. Took trigger guard off, no squeak. Put back on still no squeak. Shot today no squeak. I didn't have a screwdriver to fit that one screw and a friend supplied one today. OLG I may try that also.
Noz Posted April 14, 2019 Posted April 14, 2019 Preparation H. I could not resist my baser instincts.
Grass Range Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 The wood has shrunk so the butt stock screw has bottomed out (as said here) so add a washer. The looser the stock is the more likely for it to crack or a chip may come off the upper corners
