Is there any place

on the entire WWW that has decent street map and directions?   Used to use googlemap but in the last few years it has become as useless as tits on a chicken.

I can't seem to find a simple street map anywhere.  All of them will show you where their subscribers are, but most don'r even label the street names.

I SO HATE computers and rhe people who program them for compugeeks, but not for common older people.

In Google maps, I find you need to enlarge/zoom in to see street names. But then you lose the perspective of where it is.

Our Cars have really superb Navigation Systems.  Real Superb.  Don't care.  When we travel, we include actual Road and Area Maps.  Luddite??  Absolutely but those road maps have saved my bacon numerous times.

PS:  I have also found APPLE MAPS on my iPhone to be very good.  Especially so when walking around in a City on vacation

Mary has an IPhone.  The map function is often ridiculously wrong.  She'll say, "It's down two more blocks on the right." I say, "No it's not, it's right here on the left."  It'll often take us on the most convoluted routes.

When I am planning a trip I look on Google maps, print out an overall and then zoom in at spots and print a close in.  Also get a paper map of the state from the local AAA office as an overall backup.  Then when actually traveling I use the maping feature on my iphone listing with an earplug along with the printed google map as backup becuase the mapping program sometimes want to give me an altrnate route I do not want to take.  Can't just listed and follow blindly.

I do similar, I'll zoom where turns are required and note a landmark. Such as " blue storage units on left just before right turn". The Google nav in our new truck is pretty good. As you approach a turn, it zooms in so you can see the turn and then backs back out.

For my Ipone, I  use WAZE. Free app. Not only great directions, it will find the fastest route, show traffic jams, and where the cops are! If you're in a hurry it also adjusts time to destination.

WAZE is owned Google and I noticed the last time I used Google in the truck I got those warning with a notice that they were from Google and WAZE users. It asked if the issue was still relevant. The problem to me was "where?". It said "disabled vehicle ahead, is this vehicle still there?", I ignored answering the question and about 5 miles down the road, there it was. I was almost going to answer NO! Then said a cop was on the side. 10 minutes later we came up on him and we were going 75! The warning to me is way too early. But better than no warning I suppose. See congestion is handy, the road turns red on the display giving an opportunity to take another route. Still getting used to it as I am also an old paper map guy!

My Samsung Galaxy can be linked to the Ford Edge. I very seldom link it because it's most annoying.  But will display Google Maps very well.  It follows me along keeping mileage,  etc. We've used it on long tricks for amusement.

I can't make Google maps work for me.  They are totally unreadable..

Our "local" AAA office moved about 90 miles away to Phoenix.

I have a flip phone without that feature.

My Magellan thingy was never worth anything.

ill not disagree that google maps , whatever , is lacking , thats why i always have printed maps in my truck when traveling , i have a backup GPS thats not synced to my car or phone too , doesmnt a;lways help but at least i have more than one opinion , sometimes you do need t zoom in to get the names of things [or use a magnifying device over the map .................

No joy so far.  I just need maps to find places like stores, cafes and such in a fifty mile radius of my house.

Maybe I'll drop by the Chamber of Commerce.

I sure miss Thomas Brothers Guides that we had in California.  County by county and in eleven years in business I only found one single error.  It showed a road going due west but didn't show a fifty acre rock quarry  right in the middle.

I called them and they sent me 100 corrected pages for my whole office and a bunch of associate offices.  Next day express, no cost.

If you are looking for local places then there should be some local paper maps available someplace.  Chamber of Commerce could be that place or they could point you in the right direction.

I just checked out openstreetmap.org as noted by chicken rustler and he is right it looks just like the paper maps.

The first search result was openstreetmap.org, it's free and at the right zoom level it looks a lot like the paper maps we're used to.

We do get even.
We still produce manual transmissions that are beyond the understanding of young people and compugeeks.
