My New (To Me) Ruger Old Armies

Yul Lose

Recommended Posts

I bought this pair of Old Armies from a pard who’s trimming down his cap gun supply. He had Snake Oil George shorten the barrels to 3 1/4” and install solid brass sights. The hammers were lowered when he got them and doesn’t know who did them but they did a nice job. I bought Kirst Konversion cylinders in .45 Colt and have been using Cowboy .45 Special in them and really like them. I wanted to install blued Belt Mountain quick change base pin kits but they’re going out of business due to retirement and only had stainless kits left and I think they look real good on them.

The previous owner also had some very nice engraving done and installed some beautiful grips. All in all I think they’re a pretty classy set of Old Armies and will be my new main match pistols.

Bring them to Bordertown and shoot their Plainsman.  I'd love to see them.

They will be at Bordertown.

They're pretty.  But why road kill a great cap gun to make something that an old 3 screw Ruger would do better?

It can still be a cap gun very easily, no tools required. I just like the Old Army looks.

Ghost guns? I bought these without cap cylinders. They were lost sometime back. I tried to buy the frames and conversion cylinders separately but gunshop made me go through background check.  They were on their books.

I really can't remember the last time I shot any of my cap guns. I've got six fixed sight Old Army's, and with selling prices very seldom under a thousand dollars anymore, that's a lot of money to have tied up in something I never use. They should probably be going on the auction block.

A big shout out to Boggus Deal, he PM’d me and offered to darken the Belt Mtn stainless quick change base pins. I sent them off last week and got them back today and they look much better darkened in my opinion. Here are before and after pictures.
