What happened to bran muffins?

Years ago you could go to any bakery or pastry shop and in grocery stores and you could get bran muffins. I haven’t seen bran muffins anywhere in a few years.

What happened to them?
Anyone know why they disappeared?

Colon blow muffins as we call them my be responsible for the water shortage in the southwest......just a thought.  I actually saw some recently in a  bakery in a neighboring town.  I still prefer blueberry.

There are several things that happened to them.  First, was they didn't really taste all that good to most people.  Second, bakeries started tinkering with them to make them taste better to a wider range of people.  Third, people wanted more changes. Fourth, they ended up being no better for you the Hostess Cupcakes, people found out, and demand dropped.

Really? I had not heard that.

I really liked the taste of bran muffins.

I will probably take the advice of @Rip Snorterand make my own. I just find it weird that every place that used to sell them just up and stopped.

I like bran muffins (the rest of my family does not) but I don't want them too sweet.  I do make them with orange juice.

A passing fad.....

I don’t know about that. My first encounter with bran muffins in a store was in 1983. From that time on all the way up to just about 2018 they were in stores, donut shops, bakeries, etc. Then they were just gone.

I began wondering if the Chinese were buying up all the bran like they tried to do with almonds, apples and oranges on the west coast.

I always equated Bran Muffins to congealed Saw Dust.  Yuck.

I have noticed that people either love them or hate them. There is no middle ground with bran muffins. :)

You know you're getting old when a popular topic is bran muffins

Not necessarily. I loved bran muffins when I was in my 20’s. I would like to like them now in my early 60’s. :)
