Second, bakeries started tinkering with them to make them taste better to a wider range of people. Third, people wanted more changes. Really? I had not heard that. I really liked the taste of bran muffins. I will probably take the advice of @Rip Snorterand make my own. My first encounter with bran muffins in a store was in 1983. From that time on all the way up to just about 2018 they were in stores, donut shops, bakeries, etc. Then they were just gone.
