I had to go to the airport today to pick up some family members and on my way I stopped at a local gas station to fill up. A car pulled  up beside the pump in front of me and a young lady got out and started filling up and got back into her car and closed the door and I could see her talking on her cell phone. I started my fill up and suddenly the car in front of me starts up and she drives off with the hose still connected and pulled it off and drug it about 20 feet until she realized what had happened. She got out and looked at her handiwork and went right inside the store. There are signs on all of the pumps that there is a $650.00 fine for driving off with the hose attached.

About 6 months ago or so I watched another woman do the same thing and she was talking on her cell phone too.

And they vote.

And I'll bet I can tell you HOW they vote!

I believe they can post all the signs they want to, but they would have one major trouble trying to get me to pay a fine. Governments impose fines. Employers can impose fines. But a retail business? Yeah, like someone's really going to pay that.

If it’s really a fee from a retail business, tell them to sue you in small claims court.

Never mind. No good can come from my comment.

They have a break away coupler on those gas lines.  I don't know how much it costs to replace one but I'm pretty sure it's less than $650.00.  If I broke it, I would feel obligated to pay for the damages.  I would not feel obligated to pay a "fine".  If they can show me a receipt for the repair, I'll pay it as long as it looked legitimate.

I've seen this done as well.

Not a youngster on the phone but a confused older fella. He started his gas pumping then got back in his car and drove off. When people started yelling at him to STOP STOP STOP this just made it worse.

Poor guy.

Yep.
They have been doing that for the last 60 years I have been here to watch it.
That is why I got my 2nd conservation notice from the power company to shut down power consumption between 4 and 9pm.
It is 114 here today...

Not one single mention made about "do not charge your electric car".

This is what happens after they shut down all the drive-in movies.

I broke many driver's side windows on my '49 Chevy Fleetline ... Fortunately ... none of the drive-in speakers were ever damaged.

Replacement windows cost $17 (a lot back then). :(

Yep.
Seen that in the school system for the last 60 years.
I arrived here in '67 from Idaho, which had an excellent public education system.
I dropped into Marin County, home of hot tubs, boa feathers and dog rolfing....  what a culture shock.
I was the kid fresh off the potato truck and pushed into a Socialist kumbaya school system.

Would you feel obligated to pay for lost income due to a down pump?  I'd rather a flat fee than pay based on a repairman's schedule.
