Ringer
1. How many rounds do you expect an ejector to last? Box count or match count. 2. How often do you replace it? 3. Have you found one that lasts longer than others.
G W Wade
Switch back and worth between sxs and 97, but can't say I remember breaking any ejectors. Have replaced a few just as piece of mind. Heard one of the worst things on ejectors is practicing with dummy shells that have been loaded with shot, so they feel like loaded ammo. Believe my replacements were C&I GW But some people practice a lot more than I do
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
I run IAC 97s really hard, and go 3 or 4 years (5,000 rounds) between ejector spring replacement. A Smith Shop heavy duty ejector spring is my go to. Good luck, GJ

The Original Lumpy Gritz
Run the ejector spring till it breaks. Extractors will give you more issues. Don't fix what ain't broke(yet). OLG

Chicken George*
Man, we've broke 3 or 4 ejector springs just this year. But we dry fire dummies that are most the weight of live rounds. Maybe I should try the ones at the Smith Shop to see if they last longer.
H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619
I've been in this game for about 10 years now. Both of my 97's are original Winchesters. Both have their original ejectors. 97 is my main match shotgun
Yul Lose
Jim Bowie (Cowboys and Indians) gave me six 16 gauge left side ejectors about 8 years ago and I just looked in my 1897 parts tray and they are all still there and I’ve shot a bunch of matches. Haven’t had to change any.
Three Foot Johnson
Four original Winchesters, but I very seldom shoot them outside of Wild Bunch. I've replaced one broken ejector. I don't remember what the replacement was, but probably an original Winchester from parts lots I buy now and then.

Ringer
Thanks for the replys. I haven't had as good of luck as most of you. Mine has been more in line with Chicken Georges. My current "good name brand" one didn't break but after about 10 boxes they are just dribbling out. It isn't broke but got weak fast. Hope I just got a bad one. Was wondering about others experiences.
Widder, SASS #59054
Hey Ringer. Your problem might not be the Ejector. Have your Extractors checked out, both right and left side. Curly Bill sets up ALL my 97's. And I think he may have done some work on a 97 for Copperhead Joe. ..........Widder
Ringer
He did this one and another one for me. I put in a new ejector and its working great. I had the breaking problem before he worked on them. Just got to wondering about others experiences. I have been shooting the double but wanted to get them back up and running. The thin 'leg' on the left side extractor is well known for breaking, and that will give you the 'dribbles' with empties. Always a good idea to have spare L/R extractors w/springs and a ejector w/mounting screw in your parts kit. OLG
