Abilene Slim SASS 81783 Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 ....my left knee. I've known for 15 years that one day I'd need a new one and that day is here. Made the decision yesterday with doc. There's some trepidation as I've never been hobbled in my legs (is that redundant?) for as long as this will be. Until recently I've been very active physically and sitting on my ass gets old fast for me. Having said that, I'm kinda looking forward to getting it behind me as it's a temporary situation. I've gotten my money's worth and then some out of this one, so I've no complaints. It's time for an upgrade. Hey, I used to fly airplanes too. Will this make me like Steve Austin of "The Six Million Dollar Man"? Ok, a buck and a quarter will do...
Chili Ron Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 Howdy Pard, I feel for ya. Heading into a room with a fella with a sharp knife....... Its always easier if you feel bad and or hurt laying there. Its easier if you go over just what is going to be done with the knife guy. Have him mark your body ezzactly where he is going to cut. This will insure they have the right guy when you are out cold and cant talk. This should be done right before you get cut if at ALL possible. Now, I tell you a friend of mine has had several such operations and gets around GREAT. Its like he suddenly (well not that suddenly) got about 20 years younger. I have a bunch of problems, No such cures for me,,,well not yet. Best CR ps-was I any hep atall?
Pat Riot Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 By the way, get some kneeling pads for use in the garage and such. Kneeling on artificial knees can be painful.
Curly McCrae Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 Best of luck to ya. A friend recently had both knees replaced and he was amazed at the difference. He lived with the pain for so long that he ignored it most of the time. With his new knees he remembered what it's like to not be in pain all the time, not to mention the mobility.
Krazy Kajun Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 My wife has had both of her knees replaced and she is happy with the outcome, less pain. Kajun

Sawyer Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 Do the exercise So! Push yourself to get full range of motion quickly. I had one replaced and the exercises got me going quickly and helped eliminate the pain. You will be back shooting in no time!

I had knee scoped and was pleased when the surgeon came in and wrote "This One" in magic marker on the bad knee. I also had cataracts removed and the surgeon wrote on the eyeball he was going to be working on.

Do EXACTLY what the therapist says, even on days she is not there. Do not try to do more than she says, you can hurt yourself and set back the recovery process. Duffield

Clay Mosby Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 I've had both done, about 3 years apart the last one about 7 years ago. The before and after difference was amazingly good, while the first 2-3 weeks of recovery was brutal. I learned though that following the doctors orders very closely, more closely than I did on the first one, really shortened the healing process on the second one. Prayers up you have a successful surgery and a short healing time.
Chili Ron Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Howdy. RED ALERT : NEVER get the idea that doing a bunch more than the therapist says will help. That's a good way to pull something you realllllllllllllly don't want pulled. It can set you back weeks or even months. Best CR
Smoken D Posted October 28, 2017 Posted October 28, 2017 Wife has had both replaced. The doc she goes too does not put you out, although for about 10 hours I had fun because she did not remember a thing. Doc did a great job and as said DO WHAT THE THERAPIST SAYS. Best of luck!
