Ego? Desire for fame and adulation?

I dunno. And I won't bother to say what I think other than some guys just should take oaths a little more seriously.

As my dad's mind was failing in his last days in the hospital in 1983, he asked quite concerned, "did I tell any secrets?" Mom & I didn't know what to make of it and forgot about it. In 2004, a crew member contacted me looking for my dad. Over a period of months, he shared with me what they were up to from 1959-60 - an ECM, SIGELINT squadron. Mom & I had no idea as dad never spoke of it.

The story might seem somewhat tame by today's standards, but was was top secret at the time. What stuck with me is that dad kept his oath to the end.

IMHO, I've no respect for someone sworn to secrecy who spills secrets so soon after the mission. Not only is it self serving, it compromises present and future missions.

My 2 cents, nothing more.

Think maybe some of it stems from frustration with the actions of the current administration? I think maybe so.

No excuse imho.

They don't sign on and take an oath for whatever the current administration is. If they are prosecuted, they certainly can't say that they didn't know of the possibility.

I don't agree with braking an oath, but this does show there's a serious leadership problem.

I worked for the Atomic Energy Commission; remember a security briefing in the early 70's about TS Crypto information being given to me and a couple of my remote job entry operators (GS-5's) stationed in scattered locations over our Germantown, MD campus: "During wartime, disclosure of this information is considered treason and punishable by death." Got everyone's attention.

Yup, no excuse. A soldier's oath is to uphold and defend the Constitution, not an administration. The Constitution still stands.

When "No Easy Day" first came out I thought it was a psyop designed to paint UBL as a coward who sent his people to die while he watched porn, tinted his gray beard, and put up no fight at his own end.

Now to find out that it really was written by a narcissistic greedy SEAL who told his tale for money, and now wonders why the government might be coming after him…

And another one is getting his 15 minutes on a Fox News special...

Sorry. Can't support anything but some jail time for these guys.

Its a different time, mindset in the younger generation. They all want their fame and glory now. What with book deals, interviews, oaths and allegiance mean so little.

Over the decades, Vets have kept silenced on their services in time of crisis. But nowadays, when a vet comes home, there are also newscasters in their faces, wanting exclusive interviews or point of views of the crisis on the battlefields. Some see this as a road to success, fame, glory, or riches. Its the times also. Some of the blame is also the public, who buy into this. Sorry to see FOX involved, I thought they were above this. Maybe Geraldo is involved also. MT

I've contacted FOX on the issue. I doubt it will do any good.

Fortunately, the overwhelming majority of vets coming home remain true to their commitment and understand the necessity for operational security. Especially given the current circumstances involving a conflict that will continue to place Americans in harm's way for years to come. These loose lipped young studs are very unpopular right now in the Special Operations community.

I have taken the oath two different times. Both times it sent shivers down my spine and raised my heartbeat considerably.

Although any secrets I might remember from forty-some years have certainly become public knowledge, I could never consider discussing them without proper authority. An oath is an oath. Sacred, IMHO.

There's an interesting article in the Washington Post Morning Mix about the upcoming Fox News show with "The Shooter". Can't figure out how to post it. It does give some of the thinking behind the decision by "The Shooter" and Mark Bissonette to discuss details. I don't agree with them, but I can understand where they're coming from.

Oh I agree that honor and duty should be just that. I'm saying that this administration has created conditions through its policies that aren't conducive to maintaining the code of conduct.

Pretty much. The administration has released secrets between and Israel. Heck, if the administration simply 'doesn't like a law' they ignore it or circumvent it.

Wow..not only unethical against the oath he took, but putting his family in the crosshairs of bad people. Anyway, I have no military service so that's all I can express...
