Hey guys!

I am a new SASS member, I'm 22 and my name is Dan. Looking to get into my first SASS match sometime in Feb/March of the new year. I've participated in three gun and competition shooting for a long time in the USPSA/IPSC realm and I'm excited to hop into this new manual of arms. My family and friends have participated in SASS for a long time and highly recommended it. Based out of Houston, TX!

A few differences between USPSA and CAS:

  • We don't shoot while moving in CAS
  • CAS involves shooting moderately complicated patterns
  • lead bullets only, no plated or jacketed bullets
  • We shoot in costumes but are pretty lax with new shooters as they get their gear together
  • Reloading is needed as the low recoil ammo we prefer is not commercially readily available
  • CAS shooters are generally older than USPSA shooters.  With your youth you will probably be a top shooter in your club after a year of learning the sport.

Texas has a fine western heritage and good clubs.  I try to shoot there at least once a year.

A little info on Brazos Rangers- Greenwood Gun Club has a locked gate. The webpage has contact for Cowboy director. You would need to e-mail him to get on his e-mail  list.

He sends out reminders before the match and includes the gate code that will be activated for the match.

Also, for all the matches their websites or Facebook has contact info. Let the club officers know you are coming and if you need anything- They may be able to arrange for guns/ammo/guncart to be available to participate in match if needed.

Everyone will suggest you attend a match before you start buying firearms and equipment. Let the match contact know you are coming and they can most likely have some firearms for you to borrow for the match or at least let you try some after the match is over. There are also folks selling firearms and equipment they are no longer using or changing from.

Come on out to the Oakwood Outlaws!  Not too far from Houston. Great stages, and multiple days to shoot, or just come one day!

Welcome!

I like your alias because i'm one of the only seven people in the country who like that movie. 😀

If you dress like him, you will be one snazzy fellow.

Again, welcome and get ready to have a lot of fun.
