Obscene, Violent Gesture?!

A question for all the "I ain't watched the NFL since (pick a date or event)!" types.  Do you write the NFL at least once during the season to say why you don't watch?  And why you boycott products that advertise during the games?

Nope, it is a free country and they have the right to do whatever they want that isn't illegal. If they want to kneel let them. I just won't be watching them do it since that is my right.

WOW!  Where did that come from?  You imply that I'm trying to deny that people don't  have the right to watch or not watch.

I only asked was if those loudly and proudly proclaiming that they no longer watch,  as is their right, took the effort to let the entity being boycotted why they were boycotting it.  You know,  so it's not just an empty gesture.  Not that they have to,  it's their right to make as many empty gestures as they want for whatever reason they have or don't have.

Just as it's my right to ask.

Just an answer to why I didn't waste my time writing to anyone about it. They didn't do anything illegal so I just chose my rights to just not watch them. I am sure they didn't miss me not watching them and didn't care one way or the other.

Only if you stop watching.  I would have thought the kneelers would be enough to get people to stop watching it permanently.  My dad's girlfriend (whose son is a police officer!) is sitting in my living room watching the NFL.  I guess nobody learns anything.

We watched the Cowboys /Giants game today. Not one player knelt during the National Anthem which was played on trumpet by Freddie Jones jazz trumpet player. Cowboys won 27-20

The Lions/Bears game had Saxaphonist Mike Phillips play the National anthem   Great job and oh yea no one knelt during the Anthem. For those of you that don’t watch there’s no more kneeling!

Thanks, but still not interested.   The league allowed disrespect to our nation and flag.  The fact that they have stopped doesn't mean my interest has returned.  It hasn't and I don't miss it.  I was pretty much tired on the all about me antics on the field anyway.  Sadly, college football is rapidly heading that direction as well.

I don’t care whether you watch or not I’m just telling everybody what’s going on today and has been for the last couple years. Have a good night!

The fact that there was no swift and stern response to that stunt was enough for me.

The kneelers.  Some of us have a longer memory and won't forget.

OMYGAWD!!!  Something that I didn't like,  and has no real consequences,  happened years ago and I'll never get over the trauma it caused me!

If I saw the gesture correctly, the guy made a touchdown, turn around and held his hand like it was a pistol. His ring finger and Little finger were curled like he was holding a gun. He had his index and second finger both pointing out, and his thumb was back like it was cocked. And he shot the other team with his hand-gun.

And that was vicious and violent and obscene.

I wonder what they would do to Ron Luciano? If memory serves, instead of holding his thumb up in the air to show that you were out, he would also stick his finger out at you and shoot you.

Ask somebody that was in the military during the 60s their opinion of Jane Fonda.

Something they didn't like, had no real consequences, happened years ago. And they don't forget.

Rosie O'Donnell had Tom Selleck on her show to talk about some new movie he had out. But instead of letting him plug his movie she gave him a blast of crap because he was in the NRA.

I don't consider it trauma. There are some things we just don't forget.

They would stop it if FANS said stick it, we are sitting the season out. But they keep going to games, watching them on T.V., and buying their products.💩

Hey, guys, I don't watch pro sports.  What's a Trump dance, and why is it a bad thing?

Apparently the top brass in the NFL thinks it political so they frown on it but BLM was okay! 🙄

It’s only a bad thing amongst the sore losers that are all butthurt over the election results.  Nothing offensive, risqué, or dirty about it.

Don't care. The NFL stood behind it.

Yes you’re correct but 99.9% of the players didn’t take part in the gesture.

But the NFL STOOD BEHIND IT. IMHO, any player participating should have been immediately dragged off the field and kicked out of the league. But the NFL allowed it to happen. If they'd have stepped up and at least "The NFL understands that players have the freedom to do that, but as an organization we disapprove", I might have a different opinion of them. But they said "We approve of our players doing this." They STILL haven't demonstrated any disapproval of it, it's just lost its headline drawing ability.

So....

I guess the GOP and the NRA should be boycotted because they supported the Mulford Act.

"Governor Ronald Reagan, who was coincidentally present on the Capitol lawn when the protesters arrived, later commented that he saw "no reason why on the street today a citizen should be carrying loaded weapons" and that guns were a "ridiculous way to solve problems that have to be solved among people of good will." In a later press conference, Reagan added that the Mulford Act "would work no hardship on the honest citizen."

That was a completely different kettle of drummers.  It was actively supporting our enemies and arguably cost the lives of some members of our military.

That was nearly 60 years ago. I doubt that any of those people are still in power.

The NFL allowed this 8 years ago. Most of them are still there, and by their silence on the subject, at least tacitly, still support it.

Many in the GOP and the NRA are supporting the opposite of Mulford.
