Somehow I can't connect Australia with lederhosen.  Had a pair at that age, and still have a pair that fit.  Great and indestructible for small boys, and even better. most have a jackknife pocket on the right side!

I do remember them, our local bus company had a couple for a while, but I didn't get to travel on buses until I started High School back in '70. By then they had gotten rid of most of them and my school bus was an old White semi-trailer bus because of overhanging trees on the route. We got on the bus at the halfway point and still had over 1/2hr ride to school, mostly standing because of crowding. The return was no better, but sometimes we got a seat .
