Alpo Posted September 3, 2022 Posted September 3, 2022 Translate that into American. What's a strapper? Did he saddle the horse? Or spank it when it lost? Quote

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A strapper is a British English term, mostly used in Australia, for a person holding a position looking after racehorses. The duties range from cleaning out the stables and yards, feeding, grooming and rugging horses, plus saddling horses for track-work and races, hence the name.[1] Relevant vocational qualifications include Horse Care and Saddlery.[2] In North America, these tasks are lumped into the general job category of "groom," though saddling may be a task assigned to more experienced grooms while stall cleaning and walking hot horses are tasks assigned to the less-experienced stablehand.[3] 1 2 Quote

That's British English used in Britain. Leastwise it is according to Dick Francis. Quote

But, I admire his gumption! How good would it have been to be a rubber necker there and in a loud Texas drawl to have sung out "In Texas, they use a horse and a rope, and tie his feet in a couple of seconds, but, I admire your gumption officer"! 1 2 Quote
Brazos John Posted September 6, 2022 Posted September 6, 2022 The government tax man told the rancher that he had authorization to go anywhere on his ranch, and showed the rancher the badge hanging from his neck. He walked to a gate, and the rancher told him, "You shouldn't go in there." The tax man held his badge up, and said that he can go anywhere he wanted. The tax man walks half way across the pasture, and the mean, old bull that ruled the pasture started chasing him. The tax man starts yelling for help. The rancher yelled back, "Show him your badge! Show him your badge!" 2 2 Quote
