"Golden Syrup vs. Corn Syrup – Are They The Same?

No. The ingredients, the process, the flavor and the texture are different. Golden syrup is made from sugar whereas corn syrup is made from corn and they are made using different processes. Corn syrup (whether light or dark) isn’t as thick and basically tastes like thick sugar water, lacking any depth of flavor. In contrast, golden syrup is thicker and has very deep caramelized, buttery, and complex flavor notes.

There is no equivalent in the U.S.

Golden syrup is pretty good stuff!

Made from sugar?? And here all this time I thought it was made by bees out of dead lion entrails.

We have cane syrup made from sugar cane, sounds like it might be similar. It's very good.

I was thinking it looked like some of the cane syrup they made and sold at the Steam Engine show when I was a kid. A little darker and more flavorful than pancake syrup you bought in the store but not as dark or as strong as molasses.

I’ll take local honey!!

EVERY TIME!!

My favorite is sourwood, but Tulip Poplar is good too!!  The darker varieties are best.

And syrup ain’t honey!  Honey requires no real processing!  You can simply drain the comb and it’s ready to consume!!

I like chewing the empty comb until it’s reduced to nothing but the wax!!

Cane syrup and golden syrup are not the same.  They are made at different temperatures and golden has citric acid resulting in a different flavor.

The US does not have an equivalent to the British staple.

@Alpo agreed, I too thought golden was honey based until a Welsh vegan corrected me.

The first time you take the lid off a trash can and find an American Possum on top or the trash hissing and showing its teeth, I guarantee you will dam' near levitate.  They are unlikely to do you GBH, but they are convincing.

Looks pretty good.....what are the lumps in the gravy....bacon bits?

Usually sausage! Sometimes ham and sometimes it’s just lumps!!

Spicy with plenty of black pepper and often some butter melted into it!

Really set it up right. Put some eggs, scrambled or fried, on top of the biscuits, then the gravy over it all.

This looks like something from the North East, or maybe West Coast big cities.

This looks like something from the deep South, or maybe the farm country of Ohio or Iowa.

Texans tell stories like this, so they have something in common with Queenslanders. Maybe unreliable cars, not sure what...

Alaskans just don't tell a lot of stories. Not sure why that either...

Queensland is two and a half times the size of Texas, but is still not Australia's largest State.

OK, Brisbane to Nicholson would require 94 mph to go that distance in 18 hours, I guess it is possible but need to add some additional speed to make up for the traffic stops (additional time to gracefully accept tickets).

At 70mph, it would require a few Red Bulls and No-Doz or whatever energy drinks and pills are legal there to do it in a day (24 hours).

Western Australia's land mass is larger than Western Europe and four times the size of Texas.

And an unreliable vehicle will not help get across any of them. Wonder if lack of stories from Alaska is due to lack of survivors...

Alaskan conditions are the opposite of our Summer conditions with how cold it gets and how the snow and ice is.
(Australia has very minimal snow and is confined to a very small part of Australia called the 'Snowy Mountains'.

We have learned of this area from The Man From Snowy River.
