It’d be great if we could make a list of current gunsmiths that specialize in cowboy guns.  If you can list someone with their contact information and if you know, their specialty.  Once this thread looks like it’s run it’s course I’ll compile a list and maybe we can get it pinned.  I hope it’ll help other pards.

Great idea, except the pinned post part; we have enough of those already.

Maybe they could rotate them a little?

"Are there any more?"

Just because I'm still alive and here....Still retired, still specific about what I work on, and Like JM,   by appointment only.

Ol' #4"s Tuning & Repair,  Moving to Tucson in a month, still at:

olnumber4@gmail.com     503 890 7440

And,  Thanks for the list.

The next bit of information that would be helpful is>>>>  What do each specialize in, limit their work to, or do best???

It seems some of the old guys are missing but I am glad to see some new names on the roster.

I remember a bit back where there was only a short list of cowboy smith's.

Stay safe, be careful,

Anything you’d like to list as a specialty?

I can add Canadians as well.  I’m not sure of shipping restrictions, if you know tell me, but I can still list them.  I know you “snow cowboys” like to shoot too, eh. :P

YEP.   Ole Jabez is known to do some good work fixing up guns north of the border.   And with his own usage of BP firearms,

it would be a good bet that he can help with BP firearms also.

Although not a 'gunsmith', I'm retired also..... :D

Most of us consider you a gunsmith.

Need to add Slater to this list, do you have his contact info handy?

I'd say Curly Bill Kelly too, but I haven't talked to him in a while and he probably doesn't want his contact info public.

T. S.,

Not so much specialties, but practice limited to: Colts clones (cartridge and C&B), 73's  and Browning BSS'.

Just "un-retired" enough to stay busy and active.

Thats funny.   But for some reason, ole Red Knee won't even turn his back on me when his 97's are in the area.....

And I still swear that I didn't have anything to do with his OOB a couple years back at the TN State.   If he would just

keep his 97's clean, he wouldn't have all those problems..... :D

He needs to start using my special lube.....the crunchy kind..... ;)

Widder ;

Thanks for the plug ,, While most of what I do is ballistic research, I have been smithing guns since 1974 , And I am now reducing the amount work I take ...

I still look after my old-time customers, but the only Gun work I now take on is Cowboy Guns... Covid has allowed me to clear much of my back log , and officially start retiring ...  I still like to help out Cowboy Shooters ,but now only take work from active Shooters in our Game ...

Yes I prefer Black Powder and Shoot FCD , Love long Range Shooting 500 yards +++, And Open-top Colt type Guns and hammered Doubles , 92  rifles, Marlin 94s ...

Not really looking for More Work, but i'm always ready to help out a fellow shooter ...

Widder, most of us on here that’s been around even for a short time know who you are, but the newer pards may not.  Would you like me to add you? Or do you want to stay incognito and the arch enemy of Red Knee and the Champion of Chunky Lovers everywhere.

JC - do you want me to add your info with “by appointment only”?  If you know of any other smiths up your way that you’d recommend just let me know and I’ll add them in as well.

Tequila,

Thanks.    Although I'm retired and inactive in taking new work, I still try to help someone in distress with the 1894 and Henry .22 lever rifle.

Everyone is still welcome to call me, which I try to be very helpful over the phone.

Yes, feel free to put me on the list:

Tennessee:  Widder, Maryville TN.     1894 Marlin and Henry .22 rifles   865 / 696-1996

Thanks

I think we need to take up a collection and send this guy a gift card from Brownells!

There is a series of these videos showing this guy making this gun,  black powder and caps.

@Widder, SASS #59054 so when should I send you my .45c CB for one of those famous Widdermatic jobs?

In that original post, I had left out smiths who did not work on the Stoeger Shotgun, those who specialized in other areas.

That's why I had left off folks like Jeff Ault, Bob James, Tom Sargis, Widder, and a bunch of others.

I don't know if Slick McClade is still doing Rugers since his retirement from the game.

They have trees so charcoal could be made. He does have a few store bought tools but I see many clearly homemade or improvised.

Here in Massachusetts, there is a fellow named Sergey.  He's been a gunsmith for a long time.  He's not a specialist in Cowboy guns per se, but he is comfortable working on old stuff and does a good job.   He's done a few things for me over the years.  http://www.rustbluing.com/
