No, because she is the one contacting him and the other officer is cover.  Rookie gets all the crappy jobs :)

This is great!

This is for CJR's 21st birthday. He was JRR's 3rd son.  Christopher Tolkien - Tolkien Gateway

For those folks wondering, JRR Tolkein wrote The Hobbit series of books.

I read them in 1 summer, after work, in the 70's. I couldn't wait to get home to read some more.

Well, yeah. Without the fine print it would not be funny. It would just be a party invitation.

The whole thing is wonderful! The Hobbit was great, but this shows his sense of humour! A very typical English sense of humour.

"... to assist them in celebrating

the Coming of Age of their Son... "

Assist in celebrating? Not "To accompany us in celebrating", or some such phrase, but "to assist"? It's like they are asking for help!

"Coming of Age"? Is he being offered for services that were not mentioned?

RSVP if not coming? You are EXPECTED to attend!

And then "Carriages at Midnight... Hearses at daybreak"? I'm going to steal this line.

And, this was before Monty Python. Even before Benny Hill!

I wish I had attended the party!!!

It's his 21st birthday. He is coming of age. He's no longer a child - he's an adult.

RSVP if not coming? Nothing strange about that. I have seen many invitations that say, "regrets only".  Means the exact same thing. You don't need to tell us if you're going to come, just let us know if you're not.

People never seem to think about what might be going on in the picture.

Maybe he borrowed his father-in-law's brand new Mercedes to go to the store and pick this thing up. In which case he would not want to push it through the parking lot and get dirt on it, and then transfer that dirt to the inside of the new car.

:P
