 Idiot never replaced the brake pads. Eventually they wore down to the metal backing plate. That then wore down the rotor surface till one side ceased to exist. The pattern you see are the cooling fins between the two braking surfaces. 
 

 Did some research and there were too many different examples for this to be a one off or shop created. :(

In an odd way it is kind of reassuring.....it takes a LOT to blow up a Ruger

I would have thought that, since rifle powder is so much slower burning than pistol, it would actually be safer.

 

If I were to load a 38 special, which I normally load with 4.5 of unique under a 158, with 4.5 of 3031 under a 158, it seems like it wouldn't do a lot.

 

On the other hand, if I were to load a 30-06, which normally is 50.0 of 3031 under a 165, and I load it with 50.0 of bullseye under that 165, I'm pretty sure that rifle will end up in many many pieces. Maybe me also.
