Mink Shoals Bandit, #49388
Think you answered your own question. There is no set number for the amount of powder required due to case size variances, but as you said, seat bullet on powder with light compression, or use the minimum as required by the rules and a filler to achieve compression....... PaleWolf Brunelle, #2495L
FCGF doesn't allow fillers in .38s.

PaleWolf Brunelle, #2495L
hmmmm... I can't seem to find the rule reference to back up that "NO FILLERS" statement... maybe that's just the way it OUGHTA be, even if it ain't.
Ace_of_Hearts
The only reference I can find is under the smoke requirements for Black Powder Categories in the RO-II manual. It is difficult to put filler in the 38 case and meet the smoke requirements.

Driftwood Johnson, SASS #38283
Howdy Here is a little photo essay I put together a few years ago about how to find the correct amount of powder for any particular bullet. Yes, you have to figure out how deep the bullet sits in the case when it is crimped. They are not all the same. http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,18257.0.html
Elk Creek LeMieux
Tyrel Cody loads 2F .38's for his 10 year old. The 10 year old boy in question has been asking him for even more boom though. Might message him and see what he's doing. It's a kick in the pants to see the TO and spotters jump back when Mustang Lewis starts settin 'em off! Matthew Duncan
Blood Washed. I took a split mouth brass case and marked on the side where the base of my bullet would sit. Using a tubing cutter I trimed the brass about a 1/8" above the mark. Then used a piece of stiff wire wrapped around the base for a handle. A heaping dip and used a straight edge to level off.
