Brown and round

Recommended Posts

Decided to buy a new pickup a couple of days ago. Came with grey cloth seats. The first night after driving around a little I stopped at Safeway for some nice piping HOT Rompin Steakhouse Chili. Put it in the container, snapped on the lid, went though checkout and put it in a plastic bag. Put said bag on the passenger seat. Got home picked up the bag, the lid had come off the chili and the bottom melted out of the bag and one quart of piping HOT chili went all over the passenger seat. Spent hours trying to get the tomato based stain out of the upholstery. Pretty much gone, but still have a round, brown stain on the seat. Whenever you buy a pickup sooner or later something, a scratch, a dent, or something will ultimately initiate it into its trucking duties. Didn't expect it to be a container of chili on the first day.

Oh man that sucks.

As far as scratches back when I could afford new vehicles, the first one was almost a relief.

Old friend of mine used to say 'if it can't take it, it can't stay'

Lets see if we can make the story better though....

Larsen picked up his brand new pick em up truck that fateful day, and decided to show his old friend Cap'n George Baylor his new ride. Well in order to really show off the new truck, ol' Larsen turned off the main road on to what once may have been called a cattle trail, well, it might have been called that 100 years ago, today it just looked like rocks and sand and brush. Well after a few miles of bouncing around thru the desert they both began to smell something, and it wasn't that new car smell. The good Cap'n looked over sheepishly and said 'I don't think I should have had that chili for breakfast before riding with you...'

Best friend has a great idea for each new pickup he purchases. He takes it to a gravel pit has had the bed filled with crushed rock to add to his drive way. This way the bed starts out with tons of scratches and he never has to be worried about scratches again.

I would go to the best auto salvage and trade that seat with the brown round for a clean one. Or, just keep it and remember the story behind it. I keep a pan and bucket in mine to avoid such calamities. Enjoy it like a new Colt.

Not funny enough, work on it some more.

There was a young man named Larsen, who took his girl to the Parson, she wiped off her chin, and said with a grin, I got it all over your seat. O, well.

Sprinkle baby powder on it a few times, keep sweeping it off dry, then moisten the fabric and sprinkle some more. Keep doing until it is gone, then stop by for some more chili.

Geez! I'm sorry that happened. Just my advice, but I believe that truck is too new for you to live with that.

Put a pencil to it. Take it to the dealer and see what they would do to fix it ... that is, would they recover the seat, replace the seat, or what? Get the costs, too. I believe they can order the seat cover and have a specialist recover it.

Then, call your insurance agent and see what they will do for you. You'll have a deductible, but you'll have your new truck back, too.

The night I bought my truck a neighbor's cat jumped on the hood, lost traction, and left four 15" scratches down to the primer right in front of the steering wheel...where I had to look at them. Tried to get them buffed out or touched up, but............they're still there almost 6 years later.

There once was a man named Larsen

Went on a date with Greer Garson.

Fed her some chili

And she got silly

Crapped on his seat and fart some.

My first new car was a 68 Firebird, red with black interior. My friend's kid threw up blueberry pudding baby food all over it about 2 hours after I picked it up.

Just remembered this one as well. My next new car(72 Le Mans station wagon was used for a weekend trip when it was a week old. My sister asked us to bring her some shrimp. We put 40 lbs in an ice chest and took off. Four hours later, we noticed the drain was not closed.

If its a Ford or Chevy, don't worry about it. You'll have bigger problems soon enough..... :o

If its a Dodge Ram, you have my sympathy..... ;)

..........Widder

Ol' Green has 357,000 plus miles on it and the BOWTIE is still rather crisp!!

A buddy of mine buys a new Harley every two years. He rides it home, parks in the grass in front of the house, walks around it a couple of times to admire his new aquisition, then kicks it over in the grass and walks off for a few minutes. He comes back, picks it up, wipes it down, and puts it in the garage. He says that after that, little scratches and the like don't bother him at all!! ;)

Sorry to hear about your pickup problem. We couldn't find a Jeep in ABQ with everything we wanted on it, so we had the leather added. I was pretty pleased results. Didn't cost that much and fit perfectly. After 26 years with Mercedes I'm pretty picky about such things. I'm also enough of a klutz that I need something idiot proof. I remember Scotch Guarding the last car I got with cloth seats. Don't do that in a closed garage. Trust me on that.

I bought a new 1983 Gran Prix when I was nineteen. A local farmer was at the dealer picking up a truck that he had ordered. He had cash in hand to pay for this GMC that he requested no overlaps in the pinstripes and that the truck be kept in the showroom until he picked it up. he inspected the truck for over an hour, gave the salesman his cash and waited for the paperwork to be completed. This was to be his Sunday truck.

Once done, the salesman brought him the paperwork and keys for this perfect truck. The farmer thanked him and walked to be tailgate where he cut a 3" scratch near the bumper, got in the truck and drove off. I have never agreed with his actions but grew to understand it.

Pettyfogger you damn sure did not want to be running around 2 years later like Blue Ridge worrying about a kid denting the damn thing or getting dirt in the bed or some such. You now have a truck!!!

Not to say Blue Ridge's truck is not beautiful but...
