  3. Saw the ad in the Chronicle for the Tippmann rolling block rifles, and as I have been thinking about replacing the rolling block I sold years ago, I'm thinking about about getting one. Has anyone purchased one of these, and what's your opinion? Thanks in advance, Jeb

  6. As long as proper attire is as defined in the rule handbooks for proper attire, we agree, not some one's personal interpretation of period correctness.

  7. If we are talking about shooting a SASS Sanctioned shoot . I can see everyone dressing in Proper attire ! If its a local weekend club shoot . ( practice for most Cowboys and Cowgals ) Then I dont really think its a big deal , to be a little relaxed on the Period Correctness . It is what it is . Shooting guns , Playing Cowboy , Enjoying friends . People get to hung up on the Meaningless little stuff . And let it ruin there day or game . Just take a deep breath and enjoy the fun . And go back to your Childhood for a moment of fun . Just saying ! LOL

  9. Hey Larson. I asked for Senior Classic Cowboy. If enough of us ask for that, will that be a recognized category? Ghost and I are long in the tooth, and I suspect we can scare up 4 or 10 others.

  11. Period Correct doesn't bother me as much as "costumes" used to. my reply was "clowns wear costumes,,, we wear outfits",,,now,, don't care either way. Havin' to much fun shootin' to worry about it. Life's to short. Lighten and have fun, Isom

  12. Silngle shots aren't legal main match rifles either. Are you talking about a side match? Four guys standing in line for a side match ailn't the same as 400 guys waiting behind some one in the main match. In any event the 80's are long gone.

  13. I had the privilege of knowing Curly Sue. She fought a hard battle. No matter how she felt, she showed up to matches with a wide smile and pleasant disposition. Curly Sue was an inspiration. The entire Las Vegas cowboy community feels the loss. Prayers up for Montana Prairie Dog and the entire family. NN

  15. Coworker buys imported reproduction junk. Ties on a feather or two then resells at trade shows. The amount of the junk he had delivered at work, it be safe to assume he parted a lot of Fools from their money. Gun Shows are like neighborhood Garage sales. A bunch of glassware and clothing. Rarely a worthwhile item at a reasonable price, and if there one its bought by the person in front of me.

  16. Buy guns at gun shows? I go for the beef jerky, and aluminum siding vendors.

  17. I had a gun show dealer explain to me in great detail why my search for a Ruger Red Hawk in 41 Mag was an impossibility because no Ruger of any type had ever been made in a 41 caliber.

  20. >No Army Captain would abreviate Captain with "Capt" instead of the proper CPT< Are you sure? I can see my father, when typing AN OFFICIAL NAVY DOCUMENT, IN ALL CAPS, using ADCS, but if writing to a civilian, saying, "I am a Senior Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy...". But then, Daddy did seem to be able to separate his job (the Navy) from his life (wife and kids).

  22. I think the part we're missing here is that anybody can go to the airport, park, stroll into baggage claim and open fire. He didn't have to come on the plane. I've checked guns and ammo many times when I fly. I generally don't bother with the ammo anymore as it's not enough to get through a match and just send it all ground. It can be in a factory box or reloader's box, either is fine as long as it's not over the weight limit. In all the years and times I've flown, I have never been asked for my permit and have only had a couple of nasty people from either the airline or TSA. Often the gun case just comes down with the rest of the luggage, which I don't like. Some airports are more careful and you have to pick it up at the baggage office by showing the claim check or they call your name on the loudspeaker and ask you to meet the baggage person at a specific location. I like that better. Even moving security to the entrance to the airport won't help, he did everything per the rules and would have gotten on the plane, gotten off at his destination, gone to baggage claim and we would have the same result. The issue is how did a mentally unstable person - and a vet to boot - end up not getting the help and attention he needed before he went totally off the deep end and killed a bunch of people?

  24. Nothing to do with pricing, but one memorable gun show story stays with me... About 20 or more years ago I was wandering through a gun show enjoying the sights when I saw a display with a Savage Arms banner. Oh, cool! So I wandered over, and started browsing through two tables covered with a variety of 99's, 10's, 110's, and miscellaneous other gaspipes bearing the the fierce Savage Indian logo. After a few minutes of watching me, one of the guys manning the display asked if I was lookin' for anything in particular... "Well, actually, I was lookin' to see if you might have a Model 20 or two!" sez I. "A what?" he asked. "Model 20." "Model 20...?" "Uh huh..." Fella looked at his partner, they looked at each other, then gave me a sympathetic smile and told me that I'd been mislead... Savage never made anything called a "Model 20." And they were Savage experts. "Okay. Thanks." and wandered off, as the two city dudes grinned and watched the rube walk away. So after the show I went home and took a couple of Savage Model 20's outta the safe and lovingly cleaned 'em and fondled 'em and smiled... When he grew up I gave this one (250-3000) to Sassparilla, and still have a .300. Meanwhile, the kid's rebuilding another .250. Anyone know where a fella can find a stock for one of these mythical rifles?

  27. I know the rules. They were athletic hiking boots and they were being worn to give the guy an edge on running the stage...I guess that big "Nike" logo on the side of them might have given away the fact that they might not be allowed or within "the Spirit of the Game".

  28. Period Correct and all the others are a waste of time. A shooter showing up in jeans, a plaid flannel shirt, and some form of non baseball hat is legal in our sport except maybe in two categories. There are only things excluded our attire in the rules, ie combat boots, athletic shoes, etc.

  29. I retired on my 67th birthday. I, like many, had some trepidation about retiring. But, I found retirement suited me just fine. Haven't had a boring day since I retired. For those wondering when or if they'll retire. You will know when it's time. Your whole person, (body, mind, and soul) will tell you it's time. Love retirement.

  30. I retired at 58 (almost 17 years ago). I got cancer at 53 and the Drs said I had a 1 in 10 chance to live 5 years. The 5 years went by and my Dr said looks like I did it...whipped the big C. I went in to work and retired from my dream job and never looked back. I have loved every minute of it. I was lucky to have been employed in a field that had great benefits and wonderful pay. We live very comfortably in a great area.
