Forty Rod SASS 3935
I have received in the mail, folded inside the local newspaper, and been captive to radio commercials and huge garish roadside signs that belittle the opponents of the senders and attacking "the other side'" BY NAME and often with PHOTOs (not so often on the radio) of the person they are bashing. Often the sender is not identified or the identity is written in little teeny tiny little lettering on a back corner. Now understand, I don't give a crap how they spend their money, nor where it comes from, but it seems amazingly stupid to show your opponent's face and name in big bold full color lettering and with color photos while hiding you own. The best example came yesterday bashing Trump and saying things I don't believe are true His face was shown in full color a large size twice on the front and once on the back.........on a 5" x 10" poster type material. His name was on the same flier eight times. The sender's name (the political party of our fine state, but not one single reference to any real person, was on the bottom left corn on the back side and in lettering about 1/8" high. One more thing: I don't care what your personal life and achievements are or have been if you can't tell me of your PUBLIC OFFICE accomplishments. And don't insult me by saying what you WILL DO if elected. Simply promise me that you will TRY. Both parties are guilty, one much more than the other, but I'm not likely to vote for most of them on either side of the aisle. The stupidity of these people of any party, running for any office, and demanding my vote just simply scares the hell out of me! 1
bgavin
Is there anybody reading this who is at all uncertain how they will vote? I marvel at the amount of printed waste I get in the mail. I asked the carrier if he could just drop it directly into the recycle bin on the driveway... said he can't do that. Poor guy... his employment is stuffing useless junk into my mail box every day. All the money in the world nor all the ads, polls, and other chaff are going to change how I vote.
Sedalia Dave
This should scare the crap out of everyone. China-linked ‘Spamouflage’ network mimics Americans online to sway US political debate

Red Gauntlet , SASS 60619
Folks who don't live online don't need to worry much about Chinese spam or anything else like it. Much less have the 'crap' scared out of them....

Earlier in the year I made small contributions to a couple of candidates. Since then I have been deluged with mail solicitations requesting more money. I'm pretty sure they have spent more on postage than I contributed. Not playing any more.

Most of these items were NOT on line, They fill my mail box, cover my visible horizons, and clutter up my doorstep.... and so many of them are doing this advertisement for the other guy. I get the person they are bashing welded into my mind because I see their pictures and read their names instead of the the ones of the person or party doing the bashing. I don't really care, but there are a few million idiots out there who will be played without realizing it. I just filled out my ballot and will drop it off at town hall tomorrow morning. I left a few spaces blank and noticed that the spaces for people had about half without but one candidate and certain party couldn't seem to find ANYONE to run for these offices. They just tucked their tails and hid out.
Pat Riot
Another thing that I have noticed is advertising, yard signs, mailers, etc, with a candidate’s name and image but no where is party affiliation listed. Not even “paid for by…” information. I figure if a candidate or the candidate’s promoters are that sneaky their flier can go straight in the recycle bin. I don’t care who they represent or their party affiliation.

I always thought it was because of the primary and nobody from that party won enough to be on the ballot, was I wrong? Or maybe it's just too expensive to run somebody with no hope of winning? bgavin
Here in CA, we have 475 local property tax propositions, state wide. These propositions are bond issues paid by increasing property taxes. These are passed by zero liability voters (don't pay income or property taxes) who are willing to vote for every "feel good" wording or freebie handout they can get. I'm reading "Killing Jesus" by Bill O'Reilly and he speaks about the onerous and oppressive taxation done by Rome 2,000 years ago. Nothing has changed. Nothing has been learned, either.
Trailrider #896
One thing that irks me about candidates for executive office... "I will (raise/lower) you taxes." NO YOU WON'T! You can "jawbone" the legislators (state/Congress), and if you can get a majority to vote for whatever it is you propose, then you can sign it into law or veto it. Most people don't understand or have never been taught the powers the Constitution assigns to the legislative and executive branches. Abraham Lincoln is supposed to have said, "You can fool all the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time." OTOH, Bret Maverick's Ol' Pappy said, "You can fool some of the people some of the time, and all of the people some of the time, and those are mighty good odds!"

My friend has a couple dozen rental houses. One year there was a feel good property tax increase on the ballot. He provided to each renter a letter had two different rental increase numbers. One if the bond failed and another significantly higher if it passed. In the letter he explained that any and all property tax increases would be passed on dollar for dollar. It’s my understanding that he was not the only landlord to do this. Needless to say the bond failed to pass.
watab kid
most of the money geyts spent on advertising in battleground states [swing states] billions this year , i never wanted to allow that money equates to votes , but more i see it more i believe it - also the promises made by candidates for handouts , i always believed people were to smart to believe those lies , i no longer do ,
Rye Miles #13621
Almost every knows who’ll they vote for so at this point so these political ads only work with undecided voters. But do they?? They mostly tear each other down and they both wind up looking like jerks!🙄
Eyesa Horg
Wouldn't it be a nice change if all candidates had limits on money to spend on campaigns and told us what and how they are going to legislate instead of only telling us what the other one didn't do. They should also be held to account if they don't do what they promised to do. Otherwise what's the point in telling us anything. Nowadays the one who promises the most freebies to the lame and lazy are the ones that win. Even if they need to buy the lames pizza and bus em to the polls.
bgavin
Wouldn't it be a nice if every high school kid, voter and politician had to read "Atlas Shrugged" then pass a mandatory comprehension exam?
