Carolina Sorillo
I am planning to shoot a few matches in the near future but, I haven't shot a match in about 13 years!! What changes can I expect? Anything significant? Or is it pretty much the same as it was? I have noticed there are A LOT more categories than there used to be. Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
Take an RO1 class and come up to speed. Some needless penalties are gone. The cost of reloading components has skyrocketed, but at least they are currently available. Some favored powders like Trail Boss and Clays are gone and perhaps never to be sold again. Coated bullets are now outselling plain cast bullets, . Electronic scoring is taking over with paper disappearing. I welcome this. Abilene, SASS # 27489
Lots of little things. Clear your weekend schedule and dive into the rule encylopedia book first, then take that RO class like Edward suggested.

Silver Creek Jack
The important thing is you will find the fun, great people and time is well spent on a CAS range, good advise above just want to say welcome back!
Tex Jones, SASS 2263
The biggest change is that targets are a lot closer than they used to be. Guns are faster i.e. more tricked out with short strokes on rifles and pistols. A reading of the handbook would be useful, but except for a few changes the rules are still the same. Lots of pards gone or not shooting anymore, but still a good crowd.

Irish Pat
we would sit on wooden horses, put shotgun shells in a box with plastic easter eggs, long range pistol shot for a bonus, buy a free miss token, shoot soft drink cans that were expired (big mess) but fun.
Frederick Jackson Turner
The equipment is better, the targets have been migrating a bit closer, the stage times are dropping, the crowd is greying, and the fun is still there! Cheers, and welcome back! FJT
Griff
The rule book in 2010 was 21 pages, now it's 42. So yes, some changes, but nothing really significant. Still fun, great folks & good times.

Carolina Sorillo
I have looked through the rule book. And yes it is quite a bite more involved than I remembered! But I still didn't see anything that stood out. Which is why I asked here in case I missed something. I have also checked the scores at some of the recent local matches, not many familiar names on there anymore. 9 hours ago, Sandhills Slim, SASS #22998 said: Carolina Sorillo - Good to hear you are interested in shooting SASS after a long break. Planning on going to Creedmore next month. I have always wanted to come down to Wagram though. I've heard great things about it!! I look forward to seeing some familiar friendly faces again too! Thanks y'all, CS
