Perro Del Diablo Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 Back in May went to have C3-C4 fused. Didn't go well ended up with esophagus repair instead. So Fri here I go again.
J-BAR #18287 Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 Hang in there, Pard. Restoring classics can be frustrating, but it's worth it!

So Fri here I go again. Had the C3/4/5 fused in 2020. Two hospital days turned into two weeks due to (Wait for it!) esophageal damage. Like J-Bar said, sometimes us classics need major frame adjustments to keep us going. But ya know what? We’re worth it! I’ll be thinking about you.
Linn Keller, SASS 27332, BOLD 103 Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 Oh dear Lord ... so very sorry to hear about the esophageal damage! Very definitely standing up on my Prayer Bones on your behalf!
Perro Del Diablo Posted June 21, 2024 Author Posted June 21, 2024 Thanks for prayers and well wishes. Dr is really happy with how this came out today. I know with the support I received here on the wire is the reason.
Linn Keller, SASS 27332, BOLD 103 Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 You just brought a broad and toothy smile to my grandfatherly face! Still standing up on my Prayer Bones for you!

Pain was really bad when I got out of surgery. They maxed out the doses of dalauem, fentynal and morphine. Yes that was alot and still wasn't helping. Since I have been doing well. Doctor was really happy how it turned out.

I’m glad that all went well!! My first major surgery was for four fusions in my lumbar section! Took ‘em nearly seven hours, but when I woke up I KNEW I was in MUCH better shape! Next year will be twenty years since that surgery and I am still reaping the benefits!! Hope you get the same or better results!!

I had a fentanyl injection when they reset the bones in my wrist after I busted it. Boy, that stuff is quite the ride. The ladies asked me if I was in pain and I said “Yeah, but who cares!” I guess I was a happy camper until they started manipulating bones. I have found that Dilaudid and similar drugs do nothing for my pain. They just mess with my head. Morphine, on the other hand works wonders for me, even though Dilaudid and Fentanyl are supposed to be stronger. It just must be my chemistry. I am glad you’re doing better this time.

I have found it to be a lousy painkiller. Ibuprofen is better for my needs. Tramadol is a controlled substance, but supposedly non-addictive.

Problem is I been taking meds for so many years my tolerance is really high. The dr didn't flinch when he came to check on me and they said how much I'd been given. He was already aware of me since I've been working with him for 15 years

He was already aware of me since I've been working with him for 15 years I’m sorry you’ve had to take so many meds. That stuff causes other issues that I am sure that you’re aware of. Hopefully you won’t need as much moving forward. My doctors in SoCal told me I would need L1-L5 fused and possibly S1. When I moved here the doctors balked at that diagnoses and they sent me to “Pain Management”, which I thought was going to be a joke. After numerous injections and ablation of the nerves I have a lot less pain. I still have some pain but nothing like what it was. I will eventually have to do this all again in a year or two, but that’s okay with me. It beats fusing 5 or 6 vertabrae.
Blackwater 53393 Posted June 22, 2024 Posted June 22, 2024 They never bothered with the oxy, delaudid, or demmorol with me! They went straight to morphine and when they were prepping me for surgery, put the IV into my neck! I quickly learned to hate morphine. It works well and fortunately I didn’t need much. I’d been in pain for seventeen years and had learned to manage it. The nurses scolded me repeatedly for not using my “button”, but I explained that I really didn’t need it very much. My problem with the stuff is that when I stop using it, which I have done as quickly as I could, I have this overwhelming itch on my chest and abdomen that no amount of scratching will relieve. It seems to take a week for it to subside!! I’ve only had two occasions where morphine has been used and both times that itching liked to have driven me crazy!!
Finagler 6853 Life Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 You guys are better at pain management than I am. 30 years ago I broke some bones in my lumbar area and some ribs. I could tell you exactly when the morphine quit. PUSH THE BUTTON! After a week or so I was taking ibuprofen intermittently. It took years before I could walk fully upright without pain. My coccyx, sacrum and pelvis continue to shift which makes me unpleasant to be around. My wife says I'm a wus. I had surgery on my left foot three times. The first time I used only Ibuprofen. The second and third time, I used the prescription, codeine and ibuprofen, the first night so I could get some sleep. I had surgery on my left hand, Dupuytren's contracture, the nerve block was not fun at all but I took those pain meds regularly. I'm not sure I would recommend the surgery. The nerves in my hand are still not happy with me. I wish you well on your recovery. Not a fun time.
