Valentine's Day

My wife and I don't play that game. We tell each other of our love several times a day, give each other little gifts throughout the year, and see no need to confine our "love" to one day of excess every year.  In fact, my wife grumbles at the commercials, at the women expecting their men to get them something extravagant. She'll often comment something like "Were are the commercials of the women getting the men something?"

So, with all that in mind:

And the there’s this!!!

St. Valentine's Day Massacre. On February 14, 1929, seven members and associates of George “Bugs” Moran's bootlegging gang were lined up against a wall and shot dead inside the garage at 2122 North Clark Street. Al Capone's Chicago Outfit was widely suspected of ordering the hit, but no one was ever prosecuted.

we generally skip this day as we know where ae stand and always have the last 33 years , so ......we celebrate our sons birthday , yup feb 14th , with he and his wife at the restraint of their choice or my wifes suggestion , works out real nice - did it yesterday

she will be spending time with her mom tomorrow at the retirement facility , she suffered a small stroke this past week and at 90+ we are not expecting full recovery , but we shall see

I'm erring on the side of caution.  I got the wife flowers, a card, a small box of candy and a book.

I love her dearly, and I'd rather be extravagant as labeled uncaring.  That happened once, and will not again.

Is there something we need to know?

We'll be spending the morning with Mrs. Doc getting an infusion for her CRPS (Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome), then I'll be hanging out at home with her to take care of her all day. So we celebrated my birthday, which happens to be tomorrow, on Saturday with a nice dinner out. Due to the meds I'm on for my back, it was a tame evening for me, but the food and company were amazing. I will get her a card, but she doesn't really expect a lot on the day.

We don't go out for dinner for Valentines day. I'm making a nice one at home. I have seen lots of people who make a big show celebrating birthdays, valentine day, etc. when you know that they cheat on each other the rest of the year. People who are lousy parents but put on a big show for the friends and family on their kids birthday.

But there are also lots of happy couples who show each other love all year long who celebrate a special day together on Valentine day. Nothing wrong with that.

We had a 52 year honeymoon. But I always did something extra special on Valentine’s Day. Commercialism had nothing to do with it.

My wife and I usually don’t buy each other cards or gifts for 2/14. Today my wife surprised me with a heart shaped box with Ghirardelli chocolates.

Boy am I a lucky guy. :)

both my wife and i had youthful experiences with valentines day that left us wanting , the birth of our son gave her a new meaning and when they came into my life it gave me a new meaning as well , we are in agreement that it is to always be the focus on that day for us - together , in unison , sharing the fact that we are together with loved ones who are due the attention ,

my daughter is another story - born on the spring solstice , i think she might have wished for more , but we have never forgotten nor neglected the same treatment as the son has gotten , seldom do any in my family want for attention on their birthday , the halmark days can come and go , we remember each other well , perhaps more so than the religious holidays we remember ..............yet i have a BIL born on chritmas day so - not so much i guess ,

i even have a brother born on groundhog day ..........life is good

My wife does not like me spending money on flowers. This will be our 34th year together. On our 25th year I went to a very nice flower shop in town and ordered some really great flowers to be delivered. Gave them tip money for the deliveryman. I explained to the girl taking the order the situation and said my wife will just have to get used to receiving flowers once every 25 years!

In all seriousness this time, I will keep your family in my thoughts and meditations.

thank you , inn all seriousness here , my wife intends to spend the day with her mother , i think we are seeing the end of a beautiful life , she sadaly has seen the loss of a son and a DIL as well as the son with a TBI in her life as well as the loss of several siblings as well as her husband , yet she has been the heart and soul of this family as long as ive been a part of it , she was a hospice pastor and now a patient , im fearful we will not see easter with this matriarch of the family 0 the glue that kept alot of it together ,

i lost both my parents 15-20 years ago , ive devoted my life to my wifes side since , we lost her dad a good number of years back but mom has kept everything together even with all the losses and hardships , she deserves whatever god has in store as i know it will be good in this case and she has lived a wonderfully long life and lived in so many parts of the world [being a navy wife]

also known some great people - a few i had the privilege's of meeting over the years , thus ive been blessed to have known her and shared this life as well as her husbands ,

we are taking things one day at a time and not taking any for granted lately , im giving my wife a bit of space tomorrow to be with her alone , ill be with some good friends that know whats going on , it will be a fine day all around - life is good
