Abilene Slim SASS 81783
Just saw another of many fast food ads on the TV. This one was for Arby's, featuring a "USDA Angus steak" roast beef sandwich with veggies roasted on a grill and looks like it came from a 5-star restaurant. In all my life I've never seen anything from Arby's that remotely resembles roast beef or any kind of meat. All I've seen is a gray/beige mystery substance covered by a watery brown kind of bug juice. Pizza, burgers, chicken or fish, what we get from these joints looks nothing like on TV. Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967
Boy, that reminds me of the Campbell's Soup fiasco of 'way back when... In 1968, a creative team at BBDO, New York, slips some marbles into a bowl of Campbell's vegetable soup to keep the vegetables from sinking to the bottom. This seemingly innocent effort sparks a Federal Trade Commission probe and becomes the basis for the FTC's efforts to eliminate false ads with a practice that allows it to demand "corrective advertising" from an advertiser that has made a false claim. Although Campbell Soup Co. agrees to pull the advertising (despite arguments that without the marbles the soup appeared as if it had less vegetables than it actually did), a group of law students calling themselves Students Opposed to Unfair Practices (SOUP) complain that would not rectify the false impressions consumers were given by the ads. The group suggests Campbell run ads that correct that impression.
Noz
There is no such thing as USDA Angus steak. The USDA grades for table beef are "good" "choice" and "prime" The difference is the amount of intramuscular fat in each piece. Angus is a breed name and has no effect whatsoever on the appearance, flavor or food value of the beef. The only difference between angus and any other breed of beef cattle is the color of the hair. Angus is a breed name and has no effect whatsoever on the appearance, flavor or food value of the beef. The only difference between angus and any other breed of beef cattle is the color of the hair. Actually there is. A groups of forward thinking Cattle Barrons created the Certified Angus Beef label way back in 1978 as a marketing tool to promote their cattle. Certified Angus Beef Q: How is beef graded? A: Independent USDA graders inspect cattle and label them according to the grading scale: Prime, Choice, Select and several low-quality grades. Q: How is beef selected for the Certified Angus Beef ® brand? A: The same independent USDA graders inspect black-hided cattle (typical of the Angus breed) and give it a grade. All beef considered for the brand must be the best Choice, or Prime, beef – truly the top of the scale. This top-quality Angus beef is then evaluated again, using the brand's set of 10 science-based specifications for marbling, size and uniformity. If it's good enough to make the cut, then it earns the distinctive Certified Angus Beef ® brand label.
Noz
It is a marketing scheme that has been sold to gullible shoppers. The main necessary ingredient in the "super beef" is hair color.

Actually Arbys has stepped it up a notch!.....One of the few fast food places that I will get and enjoy food from. They have really re-done there menu and there ingredients are pretty premium.... I want a good burger I go to IN&OUT, You want a good sub sandwich go to Jersey Mikes, You want good pizza delivered get Pizza Hut.....The worst places for food are: Dominos Pizza, MC Donalds, Burger King, Subway, Taco Bell and Jack and the Box.....I would rather stay at home and cook a fat T-Bone steak up anyway!! Call me crazy but I love 'em! The biggest fishing troller in the world is responsible for 90+% of all the fish you consume at those places. This thing is the size of a city and has thousands of workers on board at all times. It trolls the waters off of Alaska and never comes in to shore to drope off catch or refuel....It stays out at sea constantly and brings in massive amounts of fish that are sorted, gutted, and processed for packaging right on board....Other ships pick up the catch and take to shore along w/ships that come out to refuel the vessel....If you watched the program you would have quickly lost your appetite for fish sandwiches! Tascosa, SASS# 24838
The only thing that makes ANGUS better than another breed is not the quality of the meat,( that is decided on what its fed) is the fact that an angus steer had more usable meat per pound on the hoof than some other breed. Locally a fast food lunch place advertised "Genuine Angus hot dogs".. Never ate there myself but I would bet my years salary (im retired) that you couldn't tell the difference between an angus hot dog and a white face hot dog... Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
Marketing people have some strange ideas, Tascosa. You are correct, but if they can convince enough people that the forked tongue is for spearing pickles, and selling their product, well the truth will not be known. Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984
When I worked in a packing plant (dang near 50 years ago) hot dogs, salamis and other finely ground meat products came from the commercial grades of beef Utility, cutter, canner. With the worst being canner. Most Kosher sausages and dogs would be cutter, while the cheapest would be canners. Typically the animal would have been a milk cow, an older animal, quite yellow fat, though maybe not a lot of fat.

Blackwater 53393
There are only a few places i'll go for fast foods. Hardee's/Carl's Jr. has the best chicken biscuit anymore since Mrs. Winners sold out. Pappa Murphy's pizza is worth driving across town for, but you really can't call it fast food. A good race track hot dog or sausage sandwich has become too rare and most of the burger joints are to be devoutly avoided!! I've found a few places that serve good burgers and chicken and the like. I just plan on sitting and waiting a little longer for the wait person to bring it!! EDIT: Most of ya' that know me know I like my own cookin' better than most of the stuff you can buy!!
