Bama Red Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Reading Deja's post about Wolfgang and her tour of the old west town got me to thinking (always a bad idea!) - how many of my cowboy and cowgirl pards have been immortalized on the silver screen or the idiot box?? Back a long time ago in my career, the job of Public Relations was added to my resume for a couple of years, so I've been on TV more times than I can count. I also had a role as an extra (non-speaking) in the 1979 movie, "Ravagers", with Richard Harris, Art Carney, Ernest Borgnine and Ann Turkel (Harris' wife). Worked two twelve-hour days splitting wood with an axe, deep in a cave, for about 12-15 seconds on screen! Did have the added benefit of eating supper the first day with Harris and Turkel - very gracious folks - Harris was especially friendly. But the movie was a real stinker!!! "Ravagers" So - what is on your acting resume?
Christopher Carson Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I was maybe in the marching scenes of "Yanks" from the mid-'70s. Lots of U.S. military folks (mostly Air Force) stationed in England at the time were volunteer extras since we already (supposedly) knew how to march. Never saw the movie, though... FWIW, there was a circus scene in some movie Robin Williams (I think) was doing in the early '80s, filmed in Munich. We declined, but several folks from our station when up there thinking that they'd at least see a circus for free, get a little spending money out of it. No circus. Reports said they just did crowd scenes for 6 hours or so. Booooooring! -Chris
Blackwater 53393 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I was the guy in the red shirt that came through the door and shot a string of rifle rounds in the opening scene of Shooting Sports America's segment on monthly S.A.S.S. matches. It featured Wartrace and the Wartrace Regulators. Jim Scouten is a nice guy. I was interviewed on Speed Channel at the opening of the Barbour's Motorcycle Museum in Leeds, AL. Guess I looked like a gnarly old biker, (which is true ). Two or three times on local TV where Milkbone played for some charity or where they needed a black powder shooting buffoon to illustrate how not to shoot a stage! Oh yeah! They showed my marvelous visage on a segment on NPT and TNN when the company I used to work for was featured building a bus for Wynona Judd.

Doc Cherokee, SASS#48332 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 My wife and I were on an episode of "Cowboys" a few years back..As part of an angry mob at Mule Camp heading out to lynch Doc Johnson, the snake oil salesman. No big deal really, I could be seen for about one second in the crowd, although there was a pretty good shot of the little lady and a friend egging the mob on! It was fun though.. If anyone here ever happens to visit the Destination Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville, N.C.. I had a part in the movie about the construction of the Motor Road they show daily to visitors there..Portraying one of the "Ghosts from the past"-The workers who originally built the Parkway..Actually got a close up on that one, dressed in period clothing and wiping dirt and sweat off my face in the hot sun..
Grizzly Dave Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 You can see me in the background in one scene on the segment the local cable channel did on Comin at Cha 2010. I was on TV during the I think it was the 1977 Rose Parade, since I was the end of a row, I marched right in front of the camera playing my trumpet. Couple of background shots as a kid in news reports and such.
Grouchy Greg, SASS#71981 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I was in an Air Force training film in '68. Not much to it, I was just one of the faces in the audience of folks who were listening to a lecture about veteran's benefits for those soon to be discharged. They had me take my glasses off so the lights wouldn't reflect off of them.
Badlands Bob #61228 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I was on the Captain Kangaroo show once. I was about 8 years old. The rest of my appearances are news real footage of crime scenes and disasters.
Spooky Joe, SASS #24061 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Lucky enough to have been in a few: 3 CIA training films, one with Chuck Norris and one 40-minute film on Urban Survival where I was the on-screen narrator. Featured extra in Ghost Rock Credited town person extra in Miracle At Sage Creek and Christmas Miracle At Sage Creek. Credited extra in Dual - The Lone Gunman Speaking part (U5) in BBC's series Jerry Anderson's Wild West - The Gunfight At The OK Corral as Tom McLaury Extra in BBC production working title The Trial of Wyatt Earp Discovery Channel's Tombstone Helldorado Days - kicked off chair at poker game
Allie Mo, SASS No. 25217 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Hi Red, You could see me for a few seconds in the background on Wreckreation Nation when they filmed at the Western Regional in 2008. I had a dark pink vest and skirt. I was on the Howdy Doody show when they were in Fresno. I think I was about seven. Regards, Allie Mo
Snake River Clay SASS #34984 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I open this thread and turn on a show I DVR'd from the Science Channel called "How it's Made". The show was about how they make Colt six-guns. There were Brett Cantrell, Cayuse and Ivory Thunder shooting their guns dressed in their finest. I was on CNN news, once.
The O'Meara Himself Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Just one movie ; The Mountain Men with Brian Keith and Charlton Heston (Both great guys. Heston was funnier than I expected and Kieth drank steadily all day long and was a real hoot.) I'm immortalized on celluloid for about a second and a half if you know right where to look. I'm the lead Jew's harp player in the rendezvous music scene. Was in Jackson Hole WY for about 3 weeks in 1979 filming. LOts of good stories. Took me about 5 years to be able to watch a movie without saying "I know how they did that!" American Sportsman tv show, black powder shoot episode. Interviewed on tv many times for several reasons, also did some public service announcements. Bunch of radio stuff too, same as above. Too many stories to get into without a taste of Black Bush. (Whiskey, you pervert!) The O'Meara, Himself
Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I've been in two movies: Shenanigans (a speaking part), and Sergeants Three (as a non-speaking cavalryman); had a 13 week TV show in college (30 minutes once a week); had a single appearance as the worst radio DJ ever (a title I knew I would have going in); and was on two records (the old vinyl kind), once as part of an orchestra and once singing Old Shep a capella. I have had two novels published and had a weekly magazine column for about 15 months. I have many more stories to finish and get to the publisher...one of these days. Other than that I have to settle for being picturesque and cute. Allie Mo, SASS No. 25217 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Just remembered, does news count? Both could be considered acting. One was a feature on stalkers and they showed my feet running up our stairs. I can't remember what the other was; but it showed my hands chopping onions. Regards, Allie Mo
Apache Hawk 60642 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Ifin' newscast count den I've been in one..... Back in 1989, I was truckin along I-40 westbound, when I saw a trator/trailer (Co owned) jump da jersy barricade and da diesel tanks busted open, and burstin' into flame. Da driver could'nt git his seat belt off, so I ran in thro da falmes and cut him out. Da local news crew asked da state trooper what happened and he said to ask me, dat I was a "hero". So da news crew did just dat. I told'em ifin' I was gonna tell my story, den no flimin'. So da cameraman took da camera off his shoulder and let it hang by his knees but was still flimin'. So when da cute lady reporter asked what happened, I said I don't know!!" She said "But he said you saw it all, and I said, "And you said you would stop flimin." Told my story to da cops, got back in my rig and was gone. Whole event was maybe bout 6 min. Think dis took place outside of Knoxville, TN.

Cyrus Cassidy #45437 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I was in a campaign ad once. My role was to smile and nod as our gubernatorial candidate waxed eloquently and appeared intelligent.
Grouchy Greg, SASS#71981 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I made the 6 o'clock news in D.C. once in 1980. I was testifying in federal court in an inmate lawsuit over prison conditions at D.C.'s prison reservation in Lorton, Va. There were no cameras in court, but there were two sketch artists present. I'm 6'1", weighed about 190 then, and had black hair and long sideburns, but no beard. WRCTV channel 4 showed a sketch of me by their artist that made me look like a big knuckle-dragging redneck, but the one by the artist from WJLA channel 7, by contrast, made me look like Barney Fife. It was interesting to see how two different artists see the same person and transfer that to their sketch pads.
Jeremiah Sullivan Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I was in a campaign ad once. My role was to smile and nod as our gubernatorial candidate waxed eloquently and appeared intelligent. Many years ago, the Navy hired an outfit to make a recruiting film for lawyers and shot some footage on the bridge of USS Constellation (CVA-64). I got detailed to play the Officer of the Deck who gives a new JAG officer "Permission to enter the Bridge." We were tied to the pier at North Island. Never saw the finished product.
GunClick Rick Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Allie Moe was in the the the Peanut Gallery!!!!!!! THE HOLY GRAIL OF KIDDOME!! I got to do an extra scene with Randy Travis a couple years ago,me and my buddy and a couple others had to stare at him when he spoke like we didn't believe what he was saying. THE VISITATION by a book authored by Frank Parretie..Weird movie..we were in an old 100 year old church.Didn't get a chance to talk to him,he was busy with reporters.
Doc Cherokee, SASS#48332 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Allie Mo's post jogged my memory about a couple of others.. I was on a couple of kiddie programs when I was a wee sprout..The one I get a kick out of when I think back on it was the local TV station which had a kiddie show hosted by Bill Norwood, who went by the TV moniker Mr. Bill..(This was at least two decades before the Saturday Night Live bit) He had a show in which he dressed up in a flight suit and pilot's helmet and was supposed to be on a rocket ship traveling to outer space..Before showing a cartoon he would have one of the kids in the peanut gallery come up and pull a lever, which initiated "Lift Off"..Of course the kids watching the show at home would see all kinds of cool special effects when the rocket took off.. Well, I was chosen to be the kid to pull the lever, and in my child's mind, was all ready for the entire studio to lift off into space when I pulled that lever..Of course nothing happened except the crew taking a break while the cartoon aired, and I stood there wondering what went wrong! The other one was a kiddie show in Greenville, S.C. called "Monty's Rascals" that showed cartoons and old episodes of "The Little Rascals"..Didn't do anything but sit in the peanut gallery and have fun at that one..I think it was part of a Birthday present from my parents.. I was also on a variety show in the '80's called P.M. Magazine..Did a thing with the owner of an Indian Museum in Old Fort, N.C. on Native Americans..It's been closed for a number of years now, I assume the owner passed away..He was a real character named Woody Grant..Part Cherokee, part Catawba, and a heckuva piano player..He used to play Honky-tonks when he was young with a band, and enjoyed playing for visitors that came to his museum on an old upright he had there..
Coffee Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I notice that no one mentioned that they were in the movie Hell to Pay Coffee
Complicated Lady Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I grew up in Southern California and went to school with kids that were on TV and in the movies. I guess that's why I've never been "star struck" One of my best friends in high school was in a Twisted Sister video. We gave him a hard time about that for years. I think the only time I have been on TV was recently on a local cable show. They were doing a story about CAS at the Bar 3. I was keeping score. I told Honey if I would have known I was going to be on TV I would have wore something a whole lot cuter. :-> I just remembered I have been on TV when our high school football team was on ESPN. They won state that year... 2008. Very recently... like this week... My older sister is in a commercial for Nutrisystem. She is at the end of the commercial. She says "now we are gonna have some fun" She is wearing my roller skates. SOOOOO my roller skates have been on TV. :->
Rex M Rugers #6621 Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Well , I had about two seconds of exposure in one of the SASS TV shows , the one from "Smoke in the Valley" , the first match held at Founder's Ranch. And was on a local news shot years back at a IMSHA Internationals for about three seconds. Most enduring , though , was my picture on the little subsciption cards from "Shoot" magazine , about a year or so before they stopped publication. Picture was from Utah state match in 2006 , I believe. Cheers , Rex
Gracos Kid Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I wasn't born yet, but my great uncle supplied all the horses and wagons in the movie "I'd Climb the Highest Mountain", starring Susan Hayward and William Lundigan. It was filmed in White County, Georgia in 1951....... Gracos Kid
Smokey Shayne Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I have been on a few episodes of "Trucks", a cable tv show about...well,... trucks. A suspension company I worked for worked with them on a few project truck builds. Thousands of magazine articles while at the same company...but mainly all you could see were my hands...I felt like Waylon in the Dukes of Hazard..lol. Was on the news a couple of times working with "Crime Stoppers" The first time my young neices were in hysterics...telling my parents they saw me on the news robbing a local store..lol Also on local news a few times promoting our local cowboy club. Recently for our state match, a couple others and myself were on the daily morning show everyday for a week promoting the match and telling folks all about SASS.

Guest Paniolo Cowboy SASS #75875 Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I was the guy who's first cousin hung around with the hot dog sales guy who was dating the girl who handed the cup of water to the young man who stood next to the U.S. Marshal when they made the training film for the Witness Protection Program that no one was supposed to see unless they knew where I was when they changed my stage name. Now my mother-in-law was a barbarian girl in a 1960s movie made in Spain that no one remembers.
