I wonder who that fellow waving his headHAT, DAMMIT at the camera is? He's got a Bill Cody beard, but that was very common back then, and he's way too tall for Bill.

I thought it was interesting how they had a gun shop right next to the hardware store.

 

That sign on the saloon - it says WINE CIGARS. When I first looked at it I thought it said Winchester. Obviously a gun store. :wacko:

It’s a hardware AND Gun shop.

Okay he wasn't Marshall until 1876 and I believe he was the first one to prohibit carrying of firearms in Dodge City. It may have been requested byt the photographer that no guns were to be displayed.

I believe it was called buffalo city before dodge. Would anyone else care to hunt big game with the finest most powerful rifles all day rather than prospect, march at the fort or drive cattle?

when i was a teen we could buy rifles , revolvers , pistols and shotguns OTC at the hardware store , the boat house , and a few gas stations in town ----i did ,
