WTB: Marlin lever action in 41 magnum--FOUND!

Hi all!

I have a friend in California who wants to get into CAS but wants to go with 41 magnum caliber (as that is what he already reloads for).  He can't access a computer at present, so asked me to see if I could find one. He really wants to get a Marlin (does not want a Henry without a side loading gate).   Any one have one in the safe collecting dust? (It would need to go to his FFL in California.)

I looked over the Henry web site and all they list is the non-side gate model in 41 mag at present.

As for cost of the Marlin, he's well aware of the cost and is prepared for it.

Good luck finding one of those!

Yeah, I have never seen one. Did Marlin build any?

Was talking a guy in town one day a few years ago.  Suddenly asked if I still had a 41 Mag.   Yup.   Dug around his shelf until came out with a can of fired brass, a couple of bags of new brass and jacketed bullets.  Inquired why he got rid of his Marlin.   Could only get 2 inch groups a 100 yards  told him anybody would be tickled to have that.   Great for me.  Have gotten a lot of 41 stuff from guys who moved on to something better.    Wouldn't get rid of any of mine.  Favorite belt gun during deer season.......     GW

A buddy of mine has one, a 1894S with straight grip stock in 41 mag. made in 1988. Didn't know there was such a creature. It's definitely not for sale, that's going to an expensive hunt for one of those.

I shoot the S also. The FG has that big ole stock that feels strange to me.

Might try here. It's been 15 years since I was in his shop. But back then he had 6 of them on the rack. He said the distributers knew he was partial to the caliber. Worth a phone call.

They turn up regularly on Gunbroker, all it takes is a wheelbarrow of money. As Sedalia Dave posted, there's at least one right now, currently $2275 w/shipping and a day to go.

Unfortunately, without computer access at present, he's not able to bid on auctions.  He understands how rare these are and I'm sure he'd have gone after that one on GB if able.

Thanks for the tip, Goody; will pass it along!

Look in completed auctions on Gunbroker. Makes your head spin. Invest in older Marlins!

You're more than welcome. He might consider his adherence to the caliber simply because he already is set up to load for it is something of a false economy. He could pick up a 45 for $800 to $1000, and still have enough left to buy a new Dillon 750 setup to load for it and be money ahead. just a thought. I do know how pigheaded I can be at times.:P

Yes, but not a lot of them and they command a premium.

I have found a few through Cabelas. If there is one close, going in and talking to the "Specialist" has helped. They have never had one locally, but will ship free from one of their own stores. For some odd reason, the Dakotas get them through every so often. I hope that you find one or two.

When i had an FFL, I sold 2 of them in the 1990's. My buddy that does my taxes still has his and i have to hunt ammo for it ever so oftem. The other guy was shooting cowboy with his and would load ammo for me to give to my tax guy. Not sure if the guys till shoots cowboy with it and a pair of blackhawk, he was in poor health last time i saw him.
