I found out that the Graton Casino in Rohnert Park has a free charging station for electric vehicles!

About half a mile from work.

What it is is good PR and customer relations.  Other than whatever tax credits the Graton Rancheria gets for putting in the charging stations, no tax money was spent on it.  Basically, it is underwritten by the suckers who play the slots, blackjack, and other games of chance.  Since I don't do any of those, for me it's free.

It will be a long time before we see that in this area.

Mebbe your new neighbors could be persuaded to install a plug-in on your side of the fence...

Know a couple that both own Tesla’s and they charged them at work for free until..............the covid 19 pandemic hit and they started working from home but they didn’t have charging stations at their house. She says it took 6 weeks to get the charging stations installed, he says it took a couple of months to get them  installed because the demand hit all at once from all of these people with Tesla’s now working at home.

My boss told me that if I get one of the Level 2 chargers I can plug it in at work.   Pull up to the welding bay and plug it into the 50 amp outlet.

After we use up the $250 credit we have with EVgo I might do that.

About half a mile from work.

The charging may be free, but a half mile extension cord will cost a fortune.

Especially in the heavy gauge needed!

I  could go there on my lunch.   Or stop after work.   Sit and nap. Or, as I did Friday,  post here and on FB.

That is a downside to electric vehicles,  it took 45 minutes to go from 23% to 91%.

Joe, does that thing have A/C?  If so, is it efficient, and does its use shorten the driving range appreciably?

It does have A/C.  We haven't had it long enough for it to be an issue yet.  We do keep it set to 68 degrees and I keep the fan set on low.  For the driving I do and the way I use the A/C I suspect that it costs me about 10 to 15 miles on a charge.  With a maximum theoretical range of about 180 miles that is a fair percentage.   The most I have gone between charges is about  130 miles and I was down to about 15%.

Nothing is free.

Nope.  Paid for by the people who think that they can beat the house.  Ot those who pay the insane cost of staying at the resort attached to the casino.

BUT do you know that they are charged solely by the solar panels? Or is it partially for show and some grid power is used?

I wonder what it actually costs to charge one of these EVs and what it works out to per mile or km?

We are starting to get hosed on hydro costs up here; encouraged to run some appliances after hours and overnight

Greedy as the utilities can be, I anticipate more increases as more EVs are purchased and greater draw is made on the electrical grid.

At the Chargepoint and EVgo places I have used it is 26 cents a minute.  Takes about 45 minutes to go from 15% to fully charged. Call it 12 bucks.   That gives me about 140 miles. That's,  what? 8 cents a mile?

Using the slow charger it came with for home use is harder to work out. I've done a few 12 and 14 hour charges, and a bunch of call it 4 hour charges to "top off" and it added maybe 30 bucks to the PG&E  bill.  Maybe 3 cents a mile.

Compare to 90 bucks for 280 miles we got with the Tundra.
